To think MNHQ is being unreasonable

mowly77 · 26/08/2022 22:00

… to take down amusing burger & chips wind-up posts that aren’t hurting anyone when I had the perfect witty riposte ready to go?

It’s Friday fucking night. It’s not a post about poo or knickers or dusty vulvas

OP posts:
Summerbreezee · 26/08/2022 22:37

😂😂😂😂 pledge!! Lettuce!!!! Oh rofl 🤣 😆 😂

JaffavsCookie · 26/08/2022 22:38

It was pointless, not funny, and the whole idea is to try to keep the site free from trolls.

FatAnneTheDealer · 26/08/2022 22:41

Suggestion for @MNHQ how about a big blue banner on the top of a post saying you know (or strongly suspect) it is fiction, so join in with that in mind.

You could have a “dodgy post” section of the website.

I can’t tell you how much I miss Rainy Puddles. She got me through some hard weeks.

mowly77 · 26/08/2022 22:43

@JaffavsCookie I disagree it’s trolling if it’s clearly light-hearted fun that has no
malicious intentions.

what about the Perspicacious baby naming thread!?

I can’t take any more threads about energy prices 😕

OP posts:
lessthanathirdofanacre · 26/08/2022 22:44

This thread will no doubt be deleted as a TAAT. But don't worry, OP. That tedious troll will certainly return with another offering. I find all of that person's threads stupid and not the least bit funny. I really wish MNHQ would crack down on all trolls once and for all.

PasTropCher · 26/08/2022 22:44

What do people think is behind the take-downs?

This is an extremely badly-made site, it’s glitchy, hard to use, badly designed, and very basic, which suggests that the owners really don’t care about it very much. It’s the sort of thing that seems to have been put together for an undergraduate project on web design, which suggest that no-one in charge has any pride or belief in the project, so why bother deleting threads?

It’s like the neighbour over the road with the shit-stained mattress and burnt out car on their lawn complaining that you bring down the tone of the neighbourhood by wearing last season’s Versace.

It depends on the troll! A non malicious ‘troll’ who can actually make MNetty jokes is fine by me.

I’ve just had chemo. I love my cancer support thread, but sometimes I want mindless fun to take my mind off the horror show that is my life and indeed the entire world.

Hasn’t been a good woo thread or a parking diagram for a while either.

OP posts:
MaggieFS · 26/08/2022 22:56

That's for the explanation! I didn't know one was meant to use condiments on one's dusty vulva.

Indeed I miss the fun. I've never cared if it's made up BS, it's my choice to spend my time on it and no different to reading a good book.

Anon50000 · 26/08/2022 22:58

🙄

2018SoFarSoGreat · 26/08/2022 23:14

You are so right, OP. I particularly liked the 'but there was salt and vinegar' bit. It made me laugh AND want chips, posh or otherwise.

Yep, no harm in that kind of fun thread, it is a shame it was pulled.

Bollindger · 26/08/2022 23:29

Eddie izzard was take down as well.
What a legend of a man they were.... .

pigsDOfly · 26/08/2022 23:37

I really wish MNHQ would crack down on all trolls once and for all.

If they really cracked down on all the trolls on here there'd be very few threads left.

Getting rid of the malicious/nasty trolling threads but leaving the harmless funny ones to run seems like a good compromise.

DuchessDarty · 26/08/2022 23:58

I didn’t see that thread. However there’s a couple of threads I’m watching or on where I’m convinced the OP is a troll but I’m enjoying them anyway.

I wish MNHQ was able to do more to get rid of trolls or at least sock puppeting. Sometimes it seems obvious, like when a poster replies in the wrong name by accident of the two or more they were using on the thread. But even then MNHQ doesn’t ban the posters, probably because it’s hard to prove when the poster is using a VPN.

I’d rather goady and unimaginative troll threads were deleted then harmless ones where other posters are having a laugh.

Bollindger · 27/08/2022 00:11

The one about the steaks and £100 food bill was funny.
Waiting for the CF to go home.

If it was the m+s/Aiden poster, which I think it was, then I think they have mh issues, and that's not funny.

But I get your point. I'm sorry things are tough.
If you want a laugh, go and look up some of threads in classics.
There are loads.

Some hysterically funny

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 27/08/2022 00:33

The burger roll was light hearted and the responses were funny but now it has been deleted the op has started one about water purity. Would have been better to leave them on the burger thread.

I think that's harsh

And also inaccurate.

But each to their own. Hmmmm. I wonder what your choices are if you don't like mn. Let me think. There MUST be a solution out there somewhere

Quincythequince · 27/08/2022 00:38

Happens all the bloody time.

So many threads just dissappear because of some random, woke reason.

It’s now becoming an incredibly boring site.

lessthanathirdofanacre · 27/08/2022 00:42

Nah, they're all branches of the same rotten tree. I think MNHQ are right to remove all troll threads, I just wish they would catch them sooner. It's no easy task to be fair.

Rogue1001MNer · 27/08/2022 00:44

Like wackamole sometimes, I think

CrapBag39 · 27/08/2022 01:24

No no no! Absolutely no fun allowed unless it’s sanctioned and fully vetted as complete truth! Now all of you get off to bed immediately! Tut tut

mowly77 · 27/08/2022 07:09

Sorry @CrapBag39 you’re right it was very silly I went to sleep as directed.

@Rogue1001MNer I’ve bloody read them all! Sometimes I desperately comb the archives.

The burger one was pointless. It wasn't remotely funny.

I agree. I didn't find that amusing at all.

Maireas · 27/08/2022 07:19

I think that the trolling has quite a wide spectrum, there are horrible posts being goady about teachers, gay people, NHS staff etc which are designed to be cruel and unpleasant. There are also pervy trolls trying to get explicit responses about teenage girls or bodily functions. Then there are threads which, if not made up, are certainly exaggerated for effect, eg builders, scaffolders, cheeky guests, hen dos etc. Harmless and often entertaining.
The burger one certainly wasn't offensive, nor was it amusing or entertaining, just odd.

girlmom21 · 27/08/2022 07:26

OP I don't understand why you're upset it's gone as she'd banned you from commenting anyway GrinGrinGrin
