To give cake away

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 22/08/2022 17:10

My dsis brought a Costco chocolate fudge cake on Saturday for my dh birthday party. We gave away as much as we could to guests but still have about a third left. It’s not been in the fridge. I think it’s ok but only my dh can eat this cake and there’s no way he’ll eat all of it and I also managed to rip off the instructions when I was opening it.
I don’t want to waste it but also don’t want to give it away and poison someone!

I was half thinking of offering it to the Asda delivery driver but feel like it might be a bit weird.

Slice it up and freeze it?

TeapotTitties · 22/08/2022 17:12

If he doesn't want to eat all of it, tell him to bring it into work or to freeze it.

Personally I'd just bin it.

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 22/08/2022 17:12

Yeh thought about that but dh isn’t going to eat it and freezer space is a premium since we (dh in his wisdom) switched off our extra countertop freezer to save money.

But as it's his cake, I'd let him deal with it.

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 22/08/2022 17:15

He’s self employed, so that doesn’t work lol

If I let him deal with it, it’ll sit on the dining room table until mould sets in. He’s a bit overwhelmed with work just now so I’m trying to deal with the wee things that I can. (I don’t work and have a disability)
It looks lovely too and I can’t have any😫

Food recycling bin then. Don't offer it to the asda driver.

Whatwherehowwhenwho · 22/08/2022 17:25

It’s just a bit of cake.
Stick it in the food recycling bin rather than risk poisoning the Asda driver.

Ebonyhorse · 22/08/2022 17:27

Neighbours?

TeapotTitties · 22/08/2022 17:27

If I let him deal with it, it’ll sit on the dining room table until mould sets in.

So he can bin it when it's mouldy.

Honestly, I don't know why you're getting involved. It's his cake, just let him deal with it or ask him if you should bin it now.

The end.

Funkyslippers · 22/08/2022 17:28

Bring it round,I'll help you with it 🤣

chillipenguin · 22/08/2022 17:28

Got any local neighbourhood foxes? Do they eat cake?

Abra1d1 · 22/08/2022 17:28

Unlikely you’d get food poisoning from a stale cake unless it’s got cream in the icing?

ReviewingTheSituation · 22/08/2022 17:32

Why all the talk of binning it? It's got days left in it. Or freeze it (in slices) to be eaten slightly warm with ice cream as a dessert at some point.

It will have enough preservatives in it to keep for (relatively) ages. It's not going off any time soon - it will go stale first, but a simple warm up in the microwave (or residual heat of an oven that's been on for something else) will overcome that.

ReviewingTheSituation · 22/08/2022 17:34

Just seen that freezer space is tight. If you freeze it already sliced, it will easily slot around other things. Having an 'instant' pudding in the freezer is always good.

Agoodsurprise · 22/08/2022 17:34

Olio?

eddiemairswife · 22/08/2022 17:43

Put it out for the birds or foxes, as has already been mentioned.

RudsyFarmer · 22/08/2022 17:46

I would slice it and freeze it or put it out for the birds.

But only her DH can eat it and he doesn't care.

I was thinking hedgehogs, but I apparently they can be a bit prickly about chocolate. 🤷‍♀️

littleducks · 22/08/2022 17:54

The Costco round chocolate fudge cake isn't kept in the fridge instore and has enough chemicals in will last ages (I assume you mean that one not the chocolate version of the sheet cake which is sold refrigerated)

mumda · 22/08/2022 17:55

Don't put chocolate cake out just in case like here your neighbour's dogs sneak into your garden.

VariationsonaTheme · 22/08/2022 17:56

Cake lasts ages, especially supermarket cake. It’s not going to poison anyone. I’m sure your DH can work out when it’s fit for the bin, if he doesn’t finish it all.

Then let it sit there until it goes mouldy.

His cake, his issue to deal with.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 22/08/2022 17:59

Put it on the Olio app
