To think it’s time for a general strike

I am old enough to remember the poll tax riots which did eventually bring about a shift in policy.

The country is on its knees - I read yesterday that energy bills could hit 6k a year in the spring and put 45 million into fuel poverty.

it’s completely nuts and the current government are wholly to blame after 12 years in power. I have just been in France where bills have risen 4% because the energy companies are nationalised.

I think it’s genuinely time for some collective action.

Families should consider sharing homes, people need to get used to heating their homes to lower temperatures, not heating every room, and of dressing differently

Get real. British houses or way too small for house sharing. And people should be allowed to heat their homes to a temperature they feel comfortable at.

What a miserable comment.

Our seas are covered in shit,
Hospital emergency departments have queues stretching down corridors into the ambulances in August. Few can see their GP.
Our railways are crumbling.
Our roads are full of potholes.
Crimes left uninvestigated.
Energy bills spiraling scarily out of control. No one less than rich will be putting on their heating.
Food inflation rocketing while quality and choice drops. Food banks begging for donations because in some parts even they are starting to dry up.

Look around, it's all turning to crap. While the mates of the Tory government get richer and richer.

Why do we keep taking this? Why do we try to pretend it's just the same everywhere else, cherry picking bad bits we can see here and there when our whole country is rotting. Can't people see thats what people behind the iron curtain used to tell themselves, that it's bad everywhere....

Its not going to magically get better this winter, but we have to choose to force that change, because we can and will rot further if we don't stop it.

@OhYouBadBadKitten

Absoutely.

Don’t forget

Education
Cost of transport. It was cheaper for me to fly return to Bordeux than to catch a train to Luton.
Airports
passports
Cant get driving tests.

The cohntry is in shambles

l hope we have a general strike. It’s exactly what we need.

Quite right @ArseInTheCoOpWindow

All that time when we were locked down, kept apart for the good of the vulnerable - they partied, laughed and lied about it. And guess what - through this winter when it all collapses for so many, they will still be partying.

Yeah a general strike will really help all those things……

I think most people are too jaded at the moment to support strikes

train strikes are not getting the support they did it’s a pita (I know that is the point) at work

not everyone can afford to

I won’t be the work is still there on the town I’m not and it’s overwhelming enough as it is

It won't help - we voted for this.

I won’t be work (nhs mh) and I don’t know anyone that would in my team apart from one (any chance to have time off they are taking it)
