Yes definitely.

ariesalien · 22/08/2022 07:44

I'd probably stick it out.

MondaysAreFineItsYourLifeThatsShit · 22/08/2022 07:44

If you call in sick you'll sleep all day and then be awake again all night, I know it's hard but try to power through and get a good night's sleep tonight x

MyBrilliantFriend · 22/08/2022 07:44

I wouldn’t but it’s very difficult for my job to be covered if I’m not there. Plus I’d be expecting to catch the bug in a day or so & need the time then.

KingsQueen · 22/08/2022 07:45

Without a doubt, you need to rest you aren't a machine

FourEyesGood · 22/08/2022 07:46

Depends on your job. If you being exhausted is going to put others at risk, perhaps take the day off. Otherwise, go in but try to take it bit easier than usual.

thelittleapple · 22/08/2022 07:46

Yes.

WeAreTheHeroes · 22/08/2022 07:46

Yes - get a bit of sleep and you'll feel so much better.

IncompleteSenten · 22/08/2022 07:47

I would, yes.

Pleasecouldihavesomeadvice · 22/08/2022 07:49

I think it would depend on my job. If I knew they could get cover for me easily and my absence wouldn’t screw over my colleagues, then I would probably take the day off.
Although you will be looking after sick kids all day, so you won’t get much rest!

Pipsickl · 22/08/2022 07:49

I’ve been in this predicament many times, if you have to drive somewhere for work then defo don’t - it’s unsafe. If ur working from home could you explain to ur manager what’s happened, then go back to bed for a few hours and see how you feel later?

concernedalot · 22/08/2022 07:49

I would go in (but thats because my employer is really really strict on sickness). Try to power through but if you find it's unbearable by lunchtime then fake a migraine or something else and go sick through your shift/working day. Then you can tell yourself at least you tried - which will then alleviate any guilt

RewildingAmbridge · 22/08/2022 07:51

If they both have a sickness bug and you've been dealing with it, what are the chances you'll be throwing up at some point today too? You don't want to take that into work, can you WFH and if you feel unwell you can log off then

gogohmm · 22/08/2022 07:52

No because I'd miss more work days than attend! Chronic insomniac here

KangarooKenny · 22/08/2022 07:55

No I wouldn’t. I’d push on through knowing I’d be tired.

Haus1234 · 22/08/2022 07:57

I wouldn’t take their bug into work - can you wfh?

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/08/2022 07:57

It sounds like a sickness bug. Dependants leave to stop spreading it around? You may come down with it soon.

Headshothelp · 22/08/2022 07:58

Personally no. When I was in the office, I'd power through until lunch, nap in my car at lunch and just load up on caffeine and sugar as required.

Now I'm at home, and work flexitime, I'd probably take an hour at lunch to to have a proper nap in bed. It's not too bad if you think about getting through four hours at a time rather than eight.

NancyJoan · 22/08/2022 07:58

I’d go in and get the week started then leave at lunchtime, but I live a short walk from work, and I’m also in charge, so only need to let the big boss, who won’t care, know what I’m doing.

fufflecake · 22/08/2022 07:58

I wouldn't take a dependents day if you aren't looking after them.

redskyatnight · 22/08/2022 07:59

If you have actual dependents' day that are intended for this purpose then, yes. I wouldn't ring in sick as that would be false. otherwise I'd simply try to get through the day. My DS didn't sleep through the night until he was 3.5. If I'd taken a day off every time I had a bad night's sleep, I'd scarcely ever have been in work.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 22/08/2022 08:01

It would depend on what I was doing that day. An admin day in the office and I would probably go in, I would also power through if I had any important meetings. If It was a day where I had to drive far (Usually a few times a month) I would take the day off as I wouldn't feel safe doing a 3 hour each way trip on no sleep.

FallOutPloy · 22/08/2022 08:02

Do you feel able to do your job? I would probably cope with just a strong a coffee and power through, then crash out this evening. But I'd say you're definitely entitled to the day, if that's what you're worried about.

mountainsunsets · 22/08/2022 08:04

No, of course not. I've done loads of days at work on non/very broken sleep.

Panicmode1 · 22/08/2022 08:04

No because I have chronic insomnia so would never go to work! Eg last night I got 3 hours of broken sleep.

I think it depends on your job - if you are driving or doing something where you have to be alert to be safe, then maybe call in. Otherwise have a strong coffee...!
