Emptying the bin

If you were going away for the weekend sat-sun and the kitchen bin was fairly full would you empty it?

Yes. 100%!

AnneLovesGilbert · 20/08/2022 20:58

Yes. Of course.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 20/08/2022 21:00

Yes

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/08/2022 21:00

erm yes

Itstrueiagree · 20/08/2022 21:02

Of course. Being that you'd close the windows and doors then you'd return to a stinky kitchen. Esp in this heat. Yuk.

Hotandbothereds · 20/08/2022 21:04

Yes I’d always empty the bin if I was going away, even if it’s wasn’t very full I’d just empty it anyway.

Edinvillian · 20/08/2022 21:04

Yes, it would stink otherwise. I went away from Thursday to Sunday but my husband didn't join me until Friday. He didn't empty the bin and I could smell it as soon as we opened the front door 🤢

liveforsummer · 20/08/2022 21:17

I LeVs my kitchen windows open a little bit yes of course I'd empty the bin and I'm quite slovenly by mumsnet standards too

toastedcat · 20/08/2022 21:24

No, it wouldn't occur to me 😂 if it was only sat-sun and only half full I definitely wouldn't even think of it.

NiqueNique · 20/08/2022 21:32

Definitely. Unless it had just been changed and didn’t have anything organic in it yet.

ChobKnees · 20/08/2022 21:33

This is MN, what do you think the answer is going to be... 🙄

User12398712 · 20/08/2022 21:37

Depends if it had anything stinky in. If all the food waste goes in the compost or food recycling, then I'd only empty the kitchen bin if it was full.

mondaytosunday · 20/08/2022 22:14

Yes - and I usually wait til it's practically overflowing.

fufflecake · 20/08/2022 22:16

Yes especially in the summer.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 20/08/2022 22:20

My instinct was to say 'yes of course' but you were only away one night. I often stay out overnight & wouldn't think about the bin!! So I guess it depends! If I planned on staying out overnight & remembered it, I'd do it.

MarmiteCoriander · 20/08/2022 22:23

Yes! I do this often as moving between houses and generally just spend 1-2 nights at the other house. I would always empty bins outside, including the food scrap bin.

I once returned from a week abroad to find the house covered in dead blue bottle flies which had left poo marks on the windows, house plants and every surface. We had left something in a bin which had clearly had fly eggs, then maggots in whilst away. Thank fully- the flies were dead when we got back- but the mess, just from flies, was FAR more than I had ever expected!

Esp in this heat- why wouldn't you just remove the bin???

NiqueNique · 20/08/2022 22:23

Just re-read! Yes, if it’s almost full I would empty it before going away for a full weekend. If it was only overnight I probably wouldn’t bother since it’d likely be filled and taken out the next day anyway.

avamiah · 20/08/2022 22:25

is this a trick question 🤣
Of course you empty your bin .

Allmarbleslost · 20/08/2022 22:27

No probably not

NiqueNique · 20/08/2022 22:28

Nah...I was trying to be nonchalant there but it’s not who I actually am Grin I would empty it, even if I was just going away for a night. Don’t like the idea of a bin full of rotting food in my home whilst I’m away.

CactusBlossom · 20/08/2022 22:29

Yes. We get our rubbish collected alternate weeks, and I'll put the rubbish in the wheelie bin in between so it's fresh in the house.

Perdita68 · 20/08/2022 22:29

Yes

bloodywhitecat · 20/08/2022 22:31

Yes if it was fairly full.

This.

I mean, if I weren't going away, I wouldn't empty it on Saturday unless it were full, so not sure why I would need to do it before Sunday just because I wasn't going to be in the house.

So, no, I wouldn't really consider one night to be "going away" in terms of the things I would do before leaving the house if I were going on holiday.

Plus, you haven't mentioned if it is just you going away or if everyone in the house were.

Oooh good reason thank you!
