If you were going away for the weekend sat-sun and the kitchen bin was fairly full would you empty it?

@Kite22 all of us away from lunchtime Saturday to evening Sunday.

Thanks everyone, genuine moan from dh that I was being ridiculous to insist bin was empty when we left. It was fairly fully with food waste etc in it. (I couldn't empty it due to a bad back)

Hopefully you returned home to a pong-free kitchen. I bet dh spent more time moaning about emptying the bin than emptying it! Grin

No

You weren't away "for the weekend"

It was just one night

We don't put food waste in the bin - have a dog, and chickens and compost.
Our council have food waste bins so eg chicken bones go in it. All soft plastic is washed and returned via supermarket bins. And we recycle cardboard, tins plastic etc. So not a lot goes in our bin.
I only ever bother to empty the kitchen bin when it is full ( every 2-4 weeks?). Same with the dustbin, frankly cba to put it out every week, so it only goes out every 4-5 weeks when full.

Depends what is in it. We have separate food waste which I’d definitely empty, my not bother with main bin if just packaging etc in it

DisplayPurposesOnly · 22/08/2022 15:13

No, I wouldn't have emptied my bin just because I was away for a night. No food waste goes into my bin.

I'm not sure being away overnight makes a difference even with food waste in. Would you empty just because you were going to bed? Either needs emptying or it doesn't.

If it was half full and had nothing too smelly (fish, chicken etc) in I would have left it but it was pretty full dh would have needed to empty it the next day anyway. Plus not sure what was at bottom !

For one night, I'd not empty it if it wasn't that full. It's not going to start smelling after that time.
