To wonder why during my passport interview they asked me this...

Had my Passport interview this week (waited 10 weeks for anyone wanting to know). Was a virtual interview where I was asked several questions which made sense to me; who I bank with, how long I've lived at current address etc.

He also asked the down stairs lay out of my house. I can't think why !

Does anyone know ?

Probably to see if you could 'reel it off' or if you had to think and make it up.

I believe that when they ask questions like date of birth etc. they are seeing how quickly you respond.

Classinglass · 20/08/2022 18:52

Maybe some strange way of determining that you actually live in that house. Does seem a strange question though.

Bubblebubblebah · 20/08/2022 18:55

To break up the possibly rehearsed questions

So they can check what the address you have given them looks on Google maps like and see if it is feasible.

So if you say you come in the front door and the living room is on the right and the kitchen is at the back and they look and it's a chip shop they will know you have never been there.

In case you have got someone else to do the interview for you.

SwedishEdith · 20/08/2022 18:58

Why did you have an interview?

User639921 · 20/08/2022 18:59

To check you live there as you would know where the rooms are? Though I wonder if they check if what you say is correct and how they check

notanothertakeaway · 20/08/2022 19:01

Presumably so that if they have doubts about you, they can check if your description was accurate

Why did you have an interview?

Probably a 1st adult passport

Bbdm1984 · 20/08/2022 19:14

When I had my interview a couple of years ago I was asked to describe in detail how I used to walk to school when I was 15 from my parents house?!

Oh that's a fun one and quite clever.

SweetPetrichor · 20/08/2022 19:19

I got the “if you looked out your living room window, what would you see” question. I guess it’s all to ensure your details are true.

SwedishEdith · 20/08/2022 19:41

Is this a random thing though? I've never heard of anyone having an interview for their 1st adult passport.

Ihatethenewlook · 20/08/2022 19:43

I had to go for an interview. What I found bizarre was that I got almost every single question wrong and they still issued me the passport. Didn’t get the point of it tbh 🤷🏼‍♀️

They introduced the policy around 15ish years ago (when I got mine).

I think that shows you weren't rehearsing the answers 😂

CharlotteFlax · 20/08/2022 19:46

First adult passport interviews are quite normal @SwedishEdith

DP had to have one and was asked when his grandparents got married. He had no idea.

Still got his passport!

Good point 😂

DD's boyfriend had an online interview. They asked him to direct them to the nearest Tesco. Theymust have been following his directions on Google maps.

The same for why I got most of mine wrong. I was in care from my early teens and estranged from my parents. They asked me their ages/DOB and I couldn’t remember the years. They asked for their wedding date and the wedding dates when they both got married to their new partners, I didn’t know any of those either. They were asking about their jobs from before I was born. I can’t remember being able to answer anything really 🤷🏼‍♀️

This happens when you've never had a child passport and are applying for your first ever passport as an adult

SunnyD44 · 20/08/2022 20:28

Sounds like a common question from the link savoycabbage posted.

It says about answering confidently but I had to think quite hard about some of the questions and I’m sure I’d stutter or act nervous if I had this interview.

lljkk · 20/08/2022 20:41

i had interview for my passport, about 8 years ago.

What if he didn't shop at Tesco?

I don't.

I can tell you how to get to a Tesco but it may not be the nearest one.
