Tescos data breach- AIBU?

ShittyTescos · 20/08/2022 16:42

Just got home and there’s loads of paper blowing around my garden. Went out to see what it was and it’s all Tescos van loading sheets and Delivery Detail sheets. The van loading sheet contains lists of peoples names and postcodes. The delivery detail sheets are full names, addresses and contact details. Tried con acting Tescos but they’re not answering the phone, there’s no email address and they’re not responding on Facebook. On one hand, I probably should just bin the stuff properly, I don’t want to get a driver into trouble. On the other, I’m really pissed that they are so careless with personal details and obviously this is a massive breach!

If Tesco don’t respond

pd339 · 20/08/2022 16:56

Hardly a "massive breach"!

ShittyTescos · 20/08/2022 16:58

@pd339 would you like your personal details floating around? I work with GDPR in my company and this would be a huge issue for us!

You need to contact their Data Protection Officer as per their Privacy Policy

LordEmsworth · 20/08/2022 17:01

It's not massive though is it? Name, address, contact details & the fact they prefer carrots to cauliflower doesn't present a massive risk to anyone's privacy. It's a breach but a pretty minor one...

WestIsWest · 20/08/2022 17:01

I couldn’t care less if someone found out what I’d bought from Tesco. Plus it was obviously an accident and accidents happen.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 20/08/2022 17:04

It's ridiculously windy where I am today so don't think I would do anything other than dispose of them, it was clearly an accident and not something the driver should get bollocked for:

Firstawake · 20/08/2022 17:04

A breach is a breach, b ut I do feel for the driver if the paperwork got away from them somehow.
Accidents happen but Tesco need to minimise the risks.

Needtostaypositive · 20/08/2022 17:08

You probably put more personal details in your recycling bin that anyone can get! You don’t know who caused the breach. Just pick it all up and put it in your bin without trying to get anyone in trouble.

Scepticalwotsits · 20/08/2022 17:09

It’s a breach, but very minor with what was on it and in scope and scale. Ico won’t do anything about that. If you have an issue flag it to their DPO. Most you will get is a we are sorry.

Arewethebadguys · 20/08/2022 17:13

FFS. Get a life. Poor driver has obviously made a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes even with gdpr. If you got yourself a wee bottle of wine with your shop: crack it open this minute and chill. Tis the weekend after all

PinkFrogss · 20/08/2022 17:14

Not really a major breach though OP unless it also includes contact details or similar. Jane Smith lives at 1 Tree Lane and shops at Tesco is no different to just bumping into someone you recognise at Tesco, and names and addresses are mostly all available online.

Personally I’d just bin it than go out of my way to get the driver in trouble.

Sswhinesthebest · 20/08/2022 17:16

I couldn’t get het up about this.

As someone else says, most people stick letters in their bins without shredding that contain exactly the same information.

This. Bin it.

HikingforScenery · 20/08/2022 17:18

It’s very windy where I live.
If I had a wad of paper in my hand and lost my balance, etc, I’m sure it would go everywhere.

that1970shouse · 20/08/2022 17:18

Of course it's a serious breach! Contact their data protection officer as a PP suggested.

Do you know how legislation works? It not based on what bothers you, what a self centred view

I'd probably let them know as well, maybe the driver tried to rescue the papers or didn't realise they'd blown away but the end result is the same.

ZELLIEMCNELLIE · 20/08/2022 17:44

It is a serious breech.

Go via the ICO and Tesco, and make sure it's shredded properly.

Stuff like this really scares me (previous DV).

AlisonDonut · 20/08/2022 17:51

Get the papers, rip them up and then burn them or put them in the compost.

Done.

People have become so precious now and love to throw around data breach with superiority. Fgs its hardly top secret information. Why would anyone care.

DancingBeanstalk · 20/08/2022 17:56

Stop looking for a problem. Just bin it and move on with your life. It’s obviously an accident.

figmaofmyimagination · 20/08/2022 17:58

It’s windy today, poor driver clearly had a mishap. Just shred them and get on with your day.

vivainsomnia · 20/08/2022 17:58

Name and address is not a big deal, you can get this online for anyone.

Telephone contact is a bit more of an issue but in your shoes I would just bin, it could happen easy and in the scale of things, it's really not a big deal.

Branster · 20/08/2022 17:59

If you really are concerned, shred them and forget about it.
What guaranteed do you have that these papers are disposed of correctly at the end of every shift anyway?
