to be happy Andrew Tate has been kicked off some social media?

so his 'official' TikTok is down, and he's banned on Insta and Facebook apparently... BIL thinks it's outrageous and the guy is a "legend' whereas I think he's probably been punched in the head too many times as he make no or little sense most of the time.
Normally this wouldn't bother me as much but I had to sit my 12 year old down to discuss why Tate is a misogynistic, insecure waste of space who's thick as shite and only half as useful after discovering that the boys in his friendship grp thought Tate was someone to emulate.

If you replace what he says about women - oops, sorry I mean about 'bitches' - with black people or gay people he would have been kicked off long ago for hate speech.

Is what he says much different to what chart topping rappers have been rapping about for years? They're never banned.

Anewdayanewdawn · 22/08/2022 11:25

@User135644 actually, yes but for you to hear his ‘views’ properly you’d have to watch his videos, and everything that happens he makes money so please don’t.

I have zero respect for anyone who refers to women as ‘ bitches’ regardless of their gender

My youngest son also thinks AT is a legend. When my son is having a bad day at the gym, he thinks he is 'letting Andrew down'. He believes what AT says about women, about our 'failed societies' and all the stuff about hyper-alpha- masculinity. He watches AT on You Tube now.

My son is 21 and almost reclusive. He has mental health difficulties and other undiagnosed issues. He really believes what AT says, and that coupled with his instability is dangerous.

One of the issues is that AT asks recruits to his Hustlers' University to post his videos all over social media, so he is everywhere. Most people see him for what he is, but for people like my son, he is the 'strong man' that seems to be the opposite of what they are.

User354354 · 22/08/2022 18:42

As an adult I can just laugh at his comments as they are so outrageously stupid. Said purely for a reaction. My fear is lots of young boys and girls would take what he says and put stock in it.

It's terrifying that any children would think his views on women is a true way to behave.

VladmirsPoutine · 22/08/2022 18:55

His messages were directly putting the lives, yes lives of young women and girls in danger. A boy killed a girl who had rejected his advances - he felt entitled to her. This is the end result of AT's rhetoric. This isn't about free speech, it's about protecting the lives of girls.

Usinlimbo · 22/08/2022 18:59

I don't know about him, how can I find out without giving him $?

Buttercupsx · 22/08/2022 19:00

He makes for a perfect case study. Parents get in early to critically discuss/challenge before your teen has slipped down the rabbit hole or before he is cancelled completely.

TurkishDelightForTheLittlePrince · 22/08/2022 19:01

The less of a platform this man and his dangerous views have, the better.

People go on about cancel culture but some people deserve, no, need to be cancelled for the good of others. This is one of them. Hopefully that’s the end of him and his hold over impressionable idiots people. Not to mention children and teenagers.

Vecnasnurse · 22/08/2022 19:08

Can't stand the little rat-faced knob. I'm so glad that the vast majority of people can see through his whiney bullshit and see him for the scared little boy that he is. The tiktok videos of girls doing impressions of him are hilarious.

wb3 · 23/08/2022 07:24

Tate is guilty of radicalising boys in the same way the far right are

No idea how to stop him; the more he gets banned the more some boys will.be drawn to him.

I’m usually a vociferous defender of free speech but but when it comes to inciting violence against a group that is already oppressed - and contrary to recent popular opinion that group DOES include women - then they need to be cancelled. Andrew Tate was influencing young boys to hate women and let’s face it we could very much do without that from a young age when misogyny is so rife in schools. Boys ‘right’ to emulate someone does not trump girls’ safety

People don’t quite seem to understand what free speech is.

Social media sites are run by private companies, not the government. The majority of which have used rules to prevent hate speech, trolling, spam etc. Being banned for not following these rules does not impinge on freedom of speech.

For example, do you think MN deleting threads and banning a troll is anti-free speech?

You think anyone should be allowed to post whatever the hell they want on the internet and that’s all fine? Maybe google what free speech actually is, for a start

I was just going to reply saying the same thing. No one has a right to say what the hell they like on social media sites set up by money making companies. If they don't want him they are well within their rights to ban him.

If this man wants free speech he can stand on a street corner and spew out his vile opinions. He might not make any money from it, he might not like the face to face abuse he will inevitably receive, but his free speech will be unaffected. I doubt he will bother. It really is all about the money and hiding behind a computer screen.

Just imagine if he was being racist!! He'd have probably been arrested! As its only women though it's considered free speech.

Some youtuber/Tiktok person called Daz apparently called him out and told his followers to report him. I need to Google this guy.

I'm so glad he's been banned. Disgusting man.
I've had some eye rolling from my 23yo (free speech yadda yadda) and my 13yo (it'll still be out there) like they know everything and I understand nothing.
My older son didn't follow him or anything, but does know all about him and is more interested in the free speech aspect.
My younger son....geez....I think he's actually mostly embarrassed that I'm one step ahead of him.
Granted I don't have a TikTok account, only have an Insta one to look at what my nieces are up to (even though I know I'm on the 'family' account and they have a much more exciting one elsewhere), and Twitter for work so I'm not actively engaging in those platforms.
But I know enough.
My 13yo knows that if I think he's up to no good, or is in any trouble then I will take his phone - this has been in place since he first had it.

CookPassBabtridge · 23/08/2022 15:55

Yeah the world would be a great place of there were no limits on free speech.. 🙄 it's 2022, we can't let rape apologists influence our youths.

As an adult, it’s easier to filter out someone like this, but when you’re a young boy/man with little life experience you can get sucked in by the appearance.
he’s clearly a deeply, deeply insecure person - oscillating between the whole ‘protect my woman’ ‘defend my women from 10 men to the death’ blah blah to refering to women as bitches, whores, saying they have ‘no honour’ ,should stay at home, shouldn’t be allowed to drive, shouldn’t be trusted etc etc
looknat my money, look at my cars, I’m so great, I’m so successful… that’s not actually how successful, secure people behave.

actually, my biggest fear about this knobhead is that he actually is gay, and this hyper masculine bullshit is self hating internalised homophobia. We gays have enough problems without having this waste of space in the tanks…

OP posts:
Anewdayanewdawn · 25/08/2022 09:43

There’s a delightful Twitter post he did where he trolls a guy who’s fundraising for life saving medical treatment for his kid… lots of - do you feel like a failure because you can’t provide for your kid? And I could save your kids life, it’s nothing to me, the $$ you need is less than a quarter of what one of my cars is worth…

OP posts:
Sugarplumfairy65 · 25/08/2022 09:57

I asked my 16 year old grandson if he'd heard of him yesterday.
The message I got back was "yeah gran, he's a knob"

Orangello · 25/08/2022 10:26

Some youtuber/Tiktok person called Daz apparently called him out and told his followers to report him. I need to Google this guy.

Also typical that while women had been reporting him for ages, the platforms only took action when a man objected..

He is dangerous and radicalising boys and young men. It is nothing like being concerned about women's rights in the trans discussion - never seen any women expressing views about trans people that are comparable to AT statements about women.

QueenoftheNimbleFlyingCat · 25/08/2022 10:27

I have conflicting views on this because I HATE him, he's just an awful human being but I don't think banning him is the right move.

People will see this as silencing and martyr him. He has enough 'fans' to continue to post his content so I don't really see how this will help. We need to lobby social media sites to regulate the algorithms and refute his horrid opinions through education.

Guiltycat · 25/08/2022 10:30

Sorry I don’t think this is a ‘free speech’ issue.

Watch any of his content and replace ‘bitches’ with ‘black’, ‘travellers’, ‘Jews’. It’s an incitement to hatred and violence. Just as dangerous and as capable of radicalising young men as some terrorist materials.

Guiltycat · 25/08/2022 10:32

actually, my biggest fear about this knobhead is that he actually is gay, and this hyper masculine bullshit is self hating internalised homophobia. We gays have enough problems without having this waste of space in the tanks…

I did think the same and completely agree.

maddening · 25/08/2022 10:36

Yabu - hate him, hate what he is, does, stands for - but free speech is free speech.

Only speech inciting violence should be limited-.and the bar to prove that should be sufficiently high - eg offending or upsetting is not violence.
