I spend a fortune on lattes etc out. Thinking I shd get a really nice machine instead. Any recommendations?
Given how much I spend on coffee put willing to spend a fair bit of it’s worth it.

De longhi magnifica

Shoxfordian · 19/08/2022 12:54

I have a Delonghi Authentica Cappucino machine, does really good coffee

Gherkingreen · 19/08/2022 12:57

Delonghi Autentica. I'd save it in a house fire (after DCs/DH/pets obvs) Worth every penny

Thejugglestruggle · 19/08/2022 13:00

We got the Siemens eq500 during the first lockdown. It was an expensive initial buy - but we've had it now 2.5 years near enough, and it's been brilliant. Delicious coffee, we never buy a coffee out now, unless sat down in a restaurant. We've more than made back the initial cost as, like you, we bought takeaway coffees near enough every day before this.
It's a great machine for the whole family as my husband likes longer lattes, I prefer flat whites and my kids loves the milk froth only option.

AnyFucker · 19/08/2022 13:01

I second DeLonghi Magnifica. It cost us about £300 but it’s great and I use it at least twice a day

OneTC · 19/08/2022 13:02

Spend your entire budget on a grinder and pour over

Fairislefandango · 19/08/2022 13:03

De Longhi Magnifica here too. It has a separate bit to put ground coffee in, which is great because dh and dd drink normal coffee and use beans, and I only drink decaf.

Erictheavocado · 19/08/2022 13:03

This is mine. It's my favourite thing.

slmum · 19/08/2022 13:49

Thanks very much. Second question! Is the milk on yours 'stiff' or quite silky. Have read on some reviews that the automatic ones can give quite old school style cappuccinos etc (not sure if I'm explaining that right).

We've spent a fortune on bean to cup machines and they've never lasted. We've had Miele, DeLonghi and Sage amongst others. Our most recent one - the Miele cost £1.5k and lasted just under two years. Miele wanted £400 just to come out to look at it. Ironically we spent twice as much on a Miele as our previous DeLonghi because of their reputation for quality and longevity.

We've cut our losses, bought a good grinder and now grind our own beans and use a good quality espresso machine instead. A fraction of the price and far fewer moving parts that will inevitably go wrong.

Idunnowhatsgoingon · 19/08/2022 21:30

I don't drink coffee but the other half does. He's got a delonghi machine that predates me being with him. It gets plenty of use.

Tootlingalong · 19/08/2022 22:00

Another shout for Delonghi Magnifica, it's a good machine and I hate buying coffee these days. Try Amazon's used section, I got one for less than half the price with a few minor scratches.

Sage Oracle

DaydreamerBetty · 19/08/2022 22:13

Delonghi Authentica

Dogsgottabone · 19/08/2022 22:18

We don't have a bean to cup, but we have a separate grinder and use a Gaggia Classic.

It was a wedding present in 2008 and this year DH replaced the motor and its had a new handle.

As per the PP, I'd save it after my children in a fire.

It probably gets used 8 times a day. It earned its keep many years ago.

For travel we also use an aeropress. And we have a stove top for when the gaggia needs descaling.

Claireshh · 19/08/2022 22:24

We have a Jura machine. They are really great. You can customise your drink -strength and even the temperature. We are on our second machine. Our first Jura machine was bought over 13 years ago. We replaced it three years ago as it had got damaged during our home renovation.

We have this and it’s fabulous!

WingBingo · 19/08/2022 22:33

Whichever one you choose, can I also just say, they are bloody awesome and I would also save mine in a house fire after my children.

Auntieobem · 19/08/2022 22:33

We have a delonghi dynamica - absolutely love it.

De longhi magnifica

I got this one. So easy to use, lovely thing. Totally recommended.

Vikinga · 19/08/2022 22:36

I grind my beans and then use a traditional stove top coffee pots and it is absolutely delicious. Environmentally friendly and cheap. Grinder £15 and coffee pot £25 ish or cheaper.

Mine is similar to this www.amazon.co.uk/Bialetti-0007252-CN-New-Venus/dp/B07ZL3RDP1/ref=asc_df_B07ZL3RDP1/?tag=olivemag-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=499353437190&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11608046451707712981&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045945&hvtargid=pla-910191919108&psc=1&th=1&ascsubtag=olivemagazine-155091

You put the water at the bottom, the water evaporates through the ground coffee in the middle and ends up as coffee at the top.

toastofthetown · 19/08/2022 22:37

James Hoffmann (coffee expert) has a video comparing bean to cup machines at a range of price points. Sage also have some assisted espresso machines which aren't truly bean to cup machines, but also might be what you're looking for such as the Oracle Touch, or the far cheaper Express Impress, depending on Budget.

AlexandraJJ · 19/08/2022 22:39

Jura. Swiss made and you can ditch the kettle too.

My Gaggia Classic is only a year old, replacing a cheaper machine that leaked.

I have said the same about saving it from a fire once all people are safe.

OP have a look at coffeeblog.co.uk/ . Lots of info there and some review videos too.
