AIBU to be annoyed that my wife tells me how to do my job.

Lady Gawain is very good at the things she does and I often acknowledge this.

However, I have particular skills in two areas which she is involved with but depend on my specific technical and professional expertise. AIBU when she interferes and tries to instruct me how to do the job even though she has no idea of what's involved.

She’s instructing you in your professional duties?
Sounds unreasonable

GabriellaMontez · 17/08/2022 20:46

Is she your boss?

midgetastic · 17/08/2022 20:52

Are you late putting the bins back ?

And you’re a dustman?

Are you late putting the bins back ?

Or did you put your plate on the counter above the dishwasher rather than in it?

Youdoyoutoday · 17/08/2022 20:55

Did you not put the toilet seat down again?

vodkaredbullgirl · 17/08/2022 20:57

Oh dear

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/08/2022 20:58

We call it 'solutioning' in our house. DH likes to tell me how to do my job, which he has no experience in. I have 30 years and am invited to speak at conferences.

I find a "REALLY? I NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IF THAT." Is effective.

Cherchezlaspice · 17/08/2022 21:01

You want to give us a big life detail?

whatsthestory123 · 17/08/2022 21:10

some people are just control freaks

a bit more detail that was meant to say.

Poshishchap · 17/08/2022 21:31

We need to know your job and/or those 2 particular skills.

balalake · 17/08/2022 21:35

Well I suppose it is a bit different from the allegations about interference from Carrie Johnson, as in her case she does know more about how to do her husband's job than her husband.

Curious as to what the job is. I trust you are not the man in Scotland with the supposed Very Important Job.

It's the dishwasher and the recycling isn't it?

Poshishchap · 17/08/2022 21:41

Penis beaker manufacturing & distribution?

Larry the Downing Street cat probably does too.

SirGawain · 17/08/2022 21:53

Both the skills are things that I was paid to do before retirement. Now I do them on a voluntary basis for charities. When I say professionally I mean as a job not anything formally professional such as a doctor or solicitor.

What are they? Why aren’t you just telling us? You’re hardly likely to be the only person who has these ‘skills’, so it’s not outing.

No but the detail about her being somewhat in the same field, coupled with him being retired and volunteering, would surely make it obvious to anyone who knows them.

Cherchezlaspice · 17/08/2022 22:17

@ShitPuffin Lots of people work in the same or similar fields to their spouses. Many have similar or even the exact same job.

Unless said job was being Chancellor of the Exchequer, of something, it’s not outing.

I could give it a punt. Just do the opposite of what Johnson does. Job's a good 'un.

One of the skills is rather niche so it would be outing.

Sometimes in the commercial world quality is sacrificed for efficiency so she may have a point.
