Firstly this is lighthearted (I hate that you have to spell that out on Mumsnet these days! And also I don’t want to hear any “YABU to get tattoos anyway as I don’t like them myself and want to give you my opinion even though it’s not about me or even relevant” as DH and I love tattoos and both already have them)

Anyway. I really really dislike butterflies and moths - it’s the fluttering wings <shudder> as well as their scary weird bodies and evil eyes. It’s not quite a phobia as I have a “proper” phobia of something else which is much more awful, but I am scared of them to the point I have to run away close my eyes if I see one outside and when I got my last tattoo they actually had stuffed and framed moths in the studio and I (somewhat embarrassingly) had to sit where I couldn’t see them.

DH has raised the subject of getting a tattoo of the moth from Silence of the Lambs. As he already has lots of tattoos this would have to be on his chest, and his tattoos are black and grey so said moth would be even more sinister IMO. Yes yes his body his choice but on his chest I would have no choice but to see it especially in situations like having a shag where it could even touch my skin.

DH has suggested we ask MNers who is being unreasonable here. Annoyingly I can’t enable voting on the app but it doesn’t matter as I will be telling DH the vote said that he is being unreasonable anyway

I have tattoos and I also love rats. I’d LOVE a tattoo of a rat. However, DP is scared of rats and finds them really creepy to look at, and for that reason I won’t get a tattoo of one. He wouldn’t try to stop me from getting one, but I know full well he’d find it hard to look at and certainly to touch and I’d never want him to look at me and feel repulsed. So I think YANBU to object to your husband’s moth plans.

If I said our conversation took place in bed and DH was trying to flutter his eyelashes against my cheek whilst saying "fluttery" in a scary voice MN will probably implode I better go get my ducks in a row!

DH actually has a very sexy chest even without tattoos I absolutely love tattooed skin (especially hands <swoon>) and a chest tattoo would actually be very sexy indeed but not a fucking moth.

I can see objectively a chest would be a good placement as it's a cruciform kind of shape.

Anyway I'm off to tell DH that, pleasingly, MN say he is being very unreasonable. Also a selfish insensitive horrible cunt. Days don't get much better

I have a bit of a snake phobia and DH has a snake tattoo (done before we met) , I’ve often joked that I would get his phobia tattooed on me, washing up liquid on one arm, bathroom cleaner on the other and a Dyson up my leg!

In ye olde days butterfly’s and moths were in the same creepy class as spiders and worms. They only became cute quite recently.

Niche general knowledge aside, start shopping for a crop top for him to wear during sex or get a picture of his mum tattooed on your chest.

Tbf OP, a hell of a lot of women post on here about things they've convinced themselves aren't a big deal, but when posters dig a bit, it turns out there's quite a bit more going on than is first apparent. Posting that it's lighthearted doesn't necessarily make it so!
