Anyone else swell up in this heat?

My entire body bloats when it's this hot, and I feel really uncomfortable. Easily looks like I've gained 5lbs from water retention. I drink lots of fluids but nothing makes a difference.
I see lots of women in shorts, skirts and nice dresses but I'm living in long, floaty dresses to cover myself up. Does anyone else have this?

Weirdly when I lived in a hot country this never happened but it was a dry heat. Here in UK I have sausage fingers and had to spend time getting my wedding ring off it was giving me pins and needles it was so tight. My feet feel tight but don't look swollen, my shoes still fit. Standing on the cold tile floor helps me feel better. I'd drinking loads take magnesium daily with calcium year round and eat salt. My Asthma is playing up in the heat too.

I did. What works for me is increasing both salt and fluid intake and ensuring I stretch - so a packet of crisps each day or a good pinch of salt on some food. If I don’t, I get headaches, nausea and swell like a balloon.
Also, even though no one wants to, keep moving around during the day, don’t just sit.

Stretching helps me too! Do you know how it works by any chance?
What also helps me (not easy in this heat) is to go out for 20-25 min. runs most days.
I’ve hade issues with water retention on and off through most of my adult life and moderate running definitely helps in my case.

@Mascia my best guess is that it keeps the lymphatic drainage system working? Or maybe just the gentle movement of muscles etc encourages movement within the tissue rather than a pooling of fluids.
It works for me and is free and easy to do. Glad it works for you too!
fyi - I’m not medically trained in anyway shape or form.

It’s really interesting! I’ve noticed it several times, but especially on one occasion recently - I had been on my feet all day and my legs felt heavy and swollen. Did a yoga class in the evening and noticed a difference straight away.

I've found my tribe!

Yes, swell up horribly - feet, ankles, legs, belly. Shoes don't fit and nor do my usual summer trousers. Interesting about the salt and magnesium, will be trying both. I don't use much salt but it's worth a go.

Usually, I was on a safari in South Africa a few years ago and couldn’t even get flip flops on!! Currently 31 degrees where I am though and strangely I’m ok.

Oh god yes. My eyes become slits and I bloat to 6 months pregnant in anything over 28 degrees. Drinking water/electrolytes doesn't help. I also feel generally awful. I think I'm allergic to heat.

Yes, fingers, ankles and feet are swollen ☹️
I can’t get any of my rings on and my sandals rub 🥺

A Cypriot friend was here when we hit 40c - she couldn’t wait to get back to Cyprus as she has a pool & air conditioning. Can’t compare. And I’m so swollen.

I used to, but since menopause the water just leaks out of me instead when I get hot! Literally as soon as I get warm it looks like I've been sprayed with a hose. It's so embarrassing, I'd rather have kept the cankles and sausage fingers.

Jammysod · 13/08/2022 21:09

Yes! I feel like my bra is trying to crush me!!

Mentalblip · 13/08/2022 21:10

Yes! I'm 36 and never experienced this until this year. It's so frustrating.

Me too!
