To take bets on how many shall I report neighbour threads there will be?

During the hose pipe ban.? There was so many during lockdown I can imagine some people with their ear to the wall timing neighbours showers, counting flush pulling let alone using a hosepipe.

Don't get me wrong I understand the need for one and I do think it should be followed but I don't personally think its something I would report.

Fooking loads because of the sheer number of Victor meldrews on here.

We'll still be using a hose, we both have conditions which mean we cant hold a watering can effectively

We're also hopefully going to sort out water butts although we dont think we have space, but we would attach a hose to those as well.

There's an alternative - it's don't water your garden for a couple of weeks.

I'm not affected by the hose pipe ban but I am watering the garden as our plants support lots of bees and those bees are also desperate for water that they are at my bird bath every two minutes which needs topping up.

This is exactly what matters.

We rely on the the world around us so we need to use water, albeit sparingly, to sustain other life forms too. Especially given a lot of these life forms suffer because of humans in the first place.

That would lead to the death of our plants, some of which are our veggies, we have a pot garden so they need topping up, we dont have any beds. No lawn

We've investigated a number of those things where you put a plastic bottle upside down with a little attachment which drips into the soil but not one of them of any type has been reliable so far.

this is going to be the “I have a condition that means I can’t wear a mask” of the hosepipe ban

Yep.

Yes these kind of posts I bet about 16.

The ones about reporting? Hmm.. 26.

It has already started on this thread with 0 trace of irony

jetadore · 13/08/2022 12:42

Does this one count and can I take bets on how many threads there will be complaining about “shall I report” threads and bleating about big brother and the breakdown of the fabric of society?

makeitsonumber1 · 13/08/2022 12:49

You can use a hosepipe to water plants in pots and plants in the ground under cover (so in a greenhouse). You can also use a hosepipe with a drip irrigation system as long as you use a timer and a pressure reducer. These are the southeastern water exemptions but I assume the other company exemptions are probably similar. We laid a lot of soaker hose during the last hosepipe ban so we can use that.

makeitsonumber1 · 13/08/2022 12:52

The exemptions and definitions are clearly laid out here

www.southeastwater.co.uk/about/updates/tubs/

Well the issue is that most people wont know that/check that and will just hear the sound of the hosepipe and get annoyed

But some people will be using it because they have disabilities, some will be using them from their water butts and some will be using them as you set out above.

makeitsonumber1 · 13/08/2022 12:53

The ignorance of other people does not concern me.

What if they use a hosepipe to put out the BBQ fire?!

🤣🤣🤣

Fizbosshoes · 13/08/2022 12:55

80% of MN seem to have at least 3 showers per day and have to wash bedding and towels multiple times a day - in a separate wash from underwear of course, clothes can only worn once before becoming gross, so I can't imagine they're that bothered about their own water consumption!!

Biker47 · 13/08/2022 12:58

If people are going to start reporting people for using their hosepipes, shouldn't we also be reporting the water companies for losing 3 billion litres of water per day by not fixing leaks in their own infrastructure and instead using their profits to pay massive executive salaries and dividends?

miserablecat · 13/08/2022 13:01

I saw a spokesperson from a water company and he said it was too expensive to sort out all the leaks which was why they had to have a hosepipe ban (or words to that effect) it made it sound like it was easier to pass all responsibility to the consumer rather than get their own house in order.

itsgettingweird · 13/08/2022 13:02

I actually thought we had a hosepipe ban here. (Not that I have a hosepipe as I live in a flat!)

But my DF pointed out there is a difference in the water companies imposing the ban. And for example my waste disposal company has, but the company my metered water comes from hasn't.

Not because I was moaning about people using them I just mentioned that I would be interested to see how many people stopped filling up their pools in their back gardens during a heatwave!

He pointed out many may actually be allowed to!

Do not question the almighty economy. Making a profit is not a crime, business that have the nous to make money by ripping off customers and government subsidy whilst offering appalling service should be applauded not criticised. Or do you want the only alternative which is a communist hellscape?

itsgettingweird · 13/08/2022 13:04

They were talking about this on The Last Leg last night. You will be fine as disabled people are exempt from the ban.

Ooohhh I haven't caught up from last night yet. Thanks for the reminder Grin

Anglian water have announced they're not planning a ban. I wonder how many reports they'll get anyway.

And people having BBQs judging by another thread. We're having a BBQ later, shoot me now.

Same. I'm doing the cooking on the driveway though which is well away from any grass. We can eat in the garden. BBQ has a lid too so should be fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

I can't wear a mask. I'm also exempt from the hosepipe ban. Both for medical reasons.

I guess I must be Satan.

Fortunately my neighbours are nice, rational people with their own lives and aren't overly-invested in my life.

ASimpleLampoon · 13/08/2022 13:26

Well no way will I report my neighbours for anything unless it was something v serious and damaging to other people or someone vulnerable. I am a keep myself to myself person but I need my neighbours on good terms. And I'm sure the rose garden at no 10 will continue to be well watered.
