"massive brood" - oh sod off <eyeroll>

My sister has 3 children and her SIL has 4. They often meet up for days out together and have started to refer to their "massive broods" whenever either of them post pics on social media Hmm

a) 3 or even 4 kids of your own is hardly "massive" - 3 kids is pretty standard and 4 is more than average but not massive FFS.

b) "brood" is just wanky and crass. They're children not chickens. Fuck off and sit on some eggs if you want a brood.

Her SIL is quite wanky overall tbh, into some niche toys and clothing brands that she is always tagging and banging on about how the children are in matching clothes, so I think this idea of having a large family somehow ties into the lifestyle she aspires to if that makes sense. But seeing "massive brood" every time they share pics of their not-very-notable number of kids is doing my fucking head in!

Disclaimer - yes I do have bigger things to worry about and no I don't hate my sister, I'm just having a minor vent on a forum designed for that purpose.

‘Massive brood’ I’ve only seen on tabloid celeb gossip sections- eg ‘Angelina Jolie and her massive brood’

I see ‘tribe’ a lot on social media though usually from mums of 3. One mum of 3 DC (mixed genders but very close age gaps) put up a photo during the first lockdown of her 3 snuggled up together on the sofa with a big post about having a huge respect of parents of ‘onlys’ as it has been invaluable for her ‘little tribe’ to have each other during this time. Was well-meaning I suppose but came across really smug!

Hahahahahahaaaaa jesus christ no, I've got the number I wanted and would rather eat cold sick than have any more!

Unsure how you inferred that but MN is weird as fuck these days so I should have known someone would have a strange perspective.

I don't know, you're coming off pretty badly even for MN standards

Jealous of your sister and her SILs relationship? Poor OP feels a bit left out? Poor diddums.

Are you ok? You sound....unhinged Grin

(Unsure why you think I would feel left out of trips to a farm park 150 miles from where I live when I don't have any toddlers of my own any more but...ok... )

I had a large family and my second husband had also had several children with his first wife, and I'd have given a hard glare to anyone referring to them as a "huge brood" or, heaven forfend, "a quiverful". I quite like "tribe". I can't imagine anyone being jealous. No regrets, but it was a very niche sort of fun.

My oldest daughter, childless by choice, refers to large families as "a litter".

Now I do like that one Grin

Op you just sound so angry.

The heat getting to you? Menopausal symptoms not being managed?

I agree with op though these people do sound bloody annoying loving the comment on “wildlings” being a few bored kids in a rainy beach 😁

Comfort yourself They will be teens soon who will either ban the mothers from posting anything whatsoever or will be posting their own probably inappropriate pictures on sites you know nothing about.

The wildlings comment did make me grin too. Very accurate!

This has now brought to mind the person I know who creates a new FB album for every month and names it alliteratively. "April Antics" - pics of her kids doing normal kid things along with lots of her sticking her tongue out. "May Madness" - pics of kids doing normal kid things along with lots of her sticking her tongue out. "June Jollies" - pics of her kids doing normal kid things along with lots of her sticking her tongue out. Its all very "I'm mad, me".

I think if it's accompanied by a picture of gorgeous kids all snuggled and Happy Days it's definitely likely to be a put down to parents of only one-s.

Wat2do222 · 12/08/2022 14:02

I think have a break from social media or just mute/unfollow the posters who annoy you. My parents are forever telling me what this one and that one are doing BUT I no longer allow SM to drive my moods or make judgments as its 80% nonsense anyway. Last straw for me was meeting a friend IRL and hearing her sob about how much in debt they were and worried about paying mortgage food etc..literally next day posts pic of new car (obv financed up to the hilt) and full of cheesey grins. Felt so disingenuous. Whilst it maybe a part off our lives forever you can choose how much you engage.

Do Yourself a favour and change your settings or have a break ☕❤

P. S the word brood is wanky 😜

SpringSnow14 · 12/08/2022 14:03

You sound jel hun - maybe you and your husband can get on the nest tonight if you want more

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 12/08/2022 14:03

It's quite a smug phrase - congratulations for reproducing so effortlessly.

If I saw seven kids approaching en masse I would quickly hot foot it in the opposite direction.

Are you OP's Sister or the SiL....or one of the "massive brood?"

Elsanore · 12/08/2022 14:18

"Fuck off and sit on some eggs" is my new favourite phrase! Hahaha

Agreed! MN is full of random and bonkers assumptions these days.

girlmom21 · 12/08/2022 14:25

I wonder if someone's made a "you've got your hands full"-esque comment to or about them for their captions are passive aggressive in-jokes rather than genuine cringe?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/08/2022 14:32

'Massive' brood?

Fuck me, they're hardly the Radfords.

Mind you, being one of five myself to somebody who would have been better not having any at all and having endured a SIL and BIL who seemed to want an award for having the Best Sperm and Functional Ovaries In The World because they had FIVE CHILDREN, YOU KNOW and SIL completely incandescent declaring that she was A Matriarch not a Multipar and how dare the midwives write that in her notes, my patience is quite short in the presence of performative fecundity.

Thinks horrendous. It’s like a car crash, I don’t think I’d be able to look away even though it’s horrific. I need to know what August will be.

She hasn't actually put one up for August yet, but my money is on it being Awesome August when she does.

I get you op. Extra points if they also 'clothbum' and 'boob their baby/toddler/preschooler to sleep'

Could be worse, I’ve just seen someone refer to breast milk as ‘boobie slops’ and now I think I’m going to puke.
