"massive brood" - oh sod off <eyeroll>

Stompasaurus · 12/08/2022 09:25

My sister has 3 children and her SIL has 4. They often meet up for days out together and have started to refer to their "massive broods" whenever either of them post pics on social media Hmm

a) 3 or even 4 kids of your own is hardly "massive" - 3 kids is pretty standard and 4 is more than average but not massive FFS.

b) "brood" is just wanky and crass. They're children not chickens. Fuck off and sit on some eggs if you want a brood.

Her SIL is quite wanky overall tbh, into some niche toys and clothing brands that she is always tagging and banging on about how the children are in matching clothes, so I think this idea of having a large family somehow ties into the lifestyle she aspires to if that makes sense. But seeing "massive brood" every time they share pics of their not-very-notable number of kids is doing my fucking head in!

Disclaimer - yes I do have bigger things to worry about and no I don't hate my sister, I'm just having a minor vent on a forum designed for that purpose.

You sound jealous that you and yours aren't in with it. 7 kids is a lot. I think it's good but know from my own experience most people don't understand what it's like to be in a large, tight knit family who all get on and look out for each other.

I’m part of one, it’s rarely as happy and sunny as it looks.

WeSent500Ravens · 12/08/2022 11:53

I'm with you OP. Very cringey. #mylittlefamily #blessed

Just no. Nobody cares.

As for jealous, hahahaha that did make me laugh.

Stompasaurus · 12/08/2022 11:54

I'm not even slightly jealous about not being invited, my DC are practically a different generation (well done to the poster who ASed me, curious how you managed it with the state of MN search these days?!?) and we are past trips to the farm park now and into the realm of drinking too much and needing lifts home from festivals Grin

Not everything that irritates someone is down to a deep rooted psychological issue yunno. Sometimes things are just annoying for no discernible reason. "Massive brood" is a teeth-itchingly infuriating nails-on-a-blackboard phrase to me, that's all. I don't actually give a fuck how many children anyone has or doesn't have!

I get you op. Extra points if they also 'clothbum' and 'boob their baby/toddler/preschooler to sleep'

Somebody's verbed boob? 🤢

sweeetpotato · 12/08/2022 11:54

Cringey

latetothefisting · 12/08/2022 11:55

but they are only using this phrase when they are all out together? In which case 7 kids IS a lot! The average number of children per family is now 1.7, so 3/4 kids each is significantly above average. the phrase is a bit wanky but it's not incorrect - the average couple at an attraction might be paying for 1/2 adults and either 1 or 2 children, they will be paying for 9, so it IS a big group!

leccybill · 12/08/2022 11:56

I generally hate big groups out anywhere so I'm with you, OP!

Trulyweird1 · 12/08/2022 11:59

ShaneTwane · 12/08/2022 10:57

They have turned having children into a personality trait.

Absolutely this. And they think it’s an especially interesting or unusual personality trait.

I am with you OP, it’s a cringey phrase, and ignores the fact that between them they have 7 individuals, who should be free to dress as they choose ( sort of). Also with the pp who suggested ‘little cult’, and the poster who thought it was little cunt 😂😂😂

BattenburgDonkey · 12/08/2022 12:00

Just click unfollow on their social media and chill out a bit. Despite your protests on here you absolutely do sound jealous.

Sunnyqueen · 12/08/2022 12:01

@Wouldloveanother then yours doesnt fall into the category of what I said: 'large tight knit family who all get on and have each others backs'. Mine does and its awesome but as i said most people have no idea what that is like.

BaconMassive · 12/08/2022 12:01

I hate it when people say "hive mind".

It means a group of knowledgeable people, like "hello hive mind, I'm stuck on XY and Z, can you help?"

makes me feel ill.

barelyfunctional · 12/08/2022 12:05

Is it wooden toys and scandi/organic clothes by any chance?

CMOTDibbler · 12/08/2022 12:05

DH has a friend who refers to his three kids as a 'tribe'. It gives me the rage for no particular reason

Patsy400 · 12/08/2022 12:06

Unfollow? You don’t have to see their bullshit and they’ll never know(so can’t be offended)
Win Win

Wouldloveanother · 12/08/2022 12:07

My family is pretty enormous (my mum and her sisters have 14 kids between them!). My nieces and nephews are coming thick and fast and I’m pregnant with number 2 (would like 3).

I think people think this about our family - we all look really alike (tall, blonde) so the ‘optics’ make us look like the Von Trapps.

But honestly, I am no more or less happy than I would be had I been born into a ‘normal size’ family. I don’t really know what people mean by ‘having each other’s backs’, it’s not 1800 there’s no longer safety in numbers needed to work the farms. I assume in small families people ‘have each other’s backs’ as well 🤷🏼‍♀️ It just means I have to spend a fortune at Christmas and birthdays 😂 love them all though.

Sunnyqueen · 12/08/2022 12:09

@Wouldloveanother I'm absolutely chill in fact feeling very grateful for what I've got. Thanks for your concern lol, guess i hit a nerve though💁projection at its finest haha.

Oh that is truly rage inducing!

Maybe I'll start refering to mine as my posse

And a caption of ‘our feral sea swept wildlings’ with a photo of a few bored kids sat on a rainy beach lol

Oooh the old ‘no YOURE projecting’ Grin

minipie · 12/08/2022 12:12

OP if you get irritated by people being smug and posey about their lives, I suspect social media isn’t for you.

Sunnyqueen · 12/08/2022 12:17

@Wouldloveanother well your the one with the family that don't get on, so what exactly would I have to project? Your comment was far more cattier than mine you just didn't like it 🤣🤣🤣

LaPerduta · 12/08/2022 12:17

Yep, I agree. Sounds very smug, like having produced four children is something to be immensely proud of.

What is there to be jealous of?
