To ask if you found Invisalign worth it?

Been quoted upwards of €4500 for Invisalign. It’s mostly for cosmetic purposes, eg. it’s not a major case but as I feel my teeth have started to move and there’s a bit of overcrowding, I decided to look into it. I earn an alright wage (think low to mid twenties range) with no DC yet, and we’re renting so don’t have a mortgage yet. DH suggested waiting until I’m earning more (hopefully) and not rush into it but I’m thinking the longer I wait, the more responsibilities we may have then and I’d probably benefit more
by starting it as early as possible? Just looking for thoughts, really!

I had a friend who has had a radical transformation. But it is expensive. It depends how bad your teeth are.

doodlejump1980 · 11/08/2022 21:34

Do it before you have kids as then all your money magically disappears!

dolphinsarentcommon · 11/08/2022 21:34

Much older than you but I have a dentists appt next week and plan to discuss Invisalign with them. I have a couple of friends who have had good results.

I've hated my teeth my whole life. Now I think what the hell, I'm fixing it.

If you can afford it and it'll make you feel good then do it.

FLOWER1982 · 11/08/2022 21:36

It depends how much you want it done. I’m currently having it, I’m 22 weeks in. It’s made a massive difference already but got a little way to go yet. It’s a bit of a pain as you have to take them out when you eat or drink anything other than water, but you do get used to it quickly. With mine, it includes whitening as well and that would be a few hundred alone. I would say go for it but the decision is down to you ultimately. I’m sure if your partner really wanted something he would do it.

FromEden · 11/08/2022 21:38

I am happy with my teeth post invisalign, but looking back I should have just gone with normal braces. Cheaper and more predictable and quicker results without the faff of not being able to eat or drink for most of the day

carefullycourageous · 11/08/2022 21:49

I would also go with a regular brace myself as cheaper and faster.

pinksquash13 · 11/08/2022 21:55

I think do it sooner rather than later. You can pay gradually. I've had mine for 1.5 yrs and it's been worth it. Make sure it's from a recommended dentist and that it includes whitening. Mine also included composite bonding for one chipped tooth. Mine is 3.5k in South East but I guess it makes sense that it's more expensive now. It is more faffy than expected but still ultimately worth it.

ihatethebus · 11/08/2022 21:57

Mine took longer than I thought but I’m really happy with the result and I feel more confident when having photos taken. Have you factored the 20% tax rebate you can claim (in ROI) into the total cost? It makes a big difference.

Ilovemycat1 · 11/08/2022 21:58

Yes i had it done
Painful
My teeth are not perfect but much better

Flowertop845 · 11/08/2022 22:08

I have just had a normal brace taken off this week. I had it on for 6 months and it cost £1700 this was just for top row of teeth. Did the job well

KvotheTheBloodless · 11/08/2022 22:14

Totally worth it to me.

I know a set of identical twins, one of whom lost his retainer as a teenager and didn't replace it - the difference in their appearance is striking, the one with nice teeth is much better looking.

NarNooNarNoo · 11/08/2022 22:22

I started Invisalign last autumn. I’m currently on the refinements stage - week 7 of 22. I started it just before my 40th birthday.

Looking back it would have been nice to have done it earlier for things like wedding photos although my teeth weren’t terrible. It was just one of those things I never seriously thought about until the last few years.

My treatment was around £4800 for everything with an orthodontist (but not whitening)

pennysarah · 11/08/2022 22:22

Yes it was worth it. I had it done pre wedding, husband had it done after and wishes he'd done it sooner. Friend also had it done just after I'd had it done - guess she thought my results were good! No regrets from anyone I know whose had it done. It doesn't always lead to completely perfect teeth but they are soo much better. I used to hate smiling for photos - it's so liberating not to worry. It's also made it easier to clean my teeth properly.

KyaClark · 11/08/2022 22:25

It's the best thing I ever did. My teeth are amazing now.

Ignore the date on the first photo. I started about May last year but I used an old photo for the comparison app.

Also look at quick straight teeth before you make a decision, I would certainly recommend them.

NessieMcNessface · 11/08/2022 22:28

My Invisalign cost £2000 and was just for the upper teeth. For me it was worth every penny as my teeth were causing me some distress as I got older. When I look back at photos I hate the way I looked whereas I can smile freely now with confidence. The only thing is that you must wear your retainer as prescribed or your teeth will go back to where there were. I still wear mine for 12 hours out of every 24 yet still I feel my teeth protesting when I put it in every night. Overall I was 100% happy with the result and would recommend it unreservedly.

Misunderstoodagain · 11/08/2022 22:30

I had the option of invisalign or clarity braces. Just had clarity braces on for 14 months and top set now off, bottom set off in a couple of weeks.
The reason I'd didn't go for the invisalign ones is because there are a lot more appointments to go too and it is extremely dependant on keeping them in 22 hours a day! Now I have my night retainer which is increbly annoying BTW, I really think I made the right choice!
It has transformed me. I would never ever smile without my hand in front of my mouth or smile for photos. My confidence has grown so much! As well as being able to clean my teeth much better.
Have you actually had a consult with the dentist? I had over crowded teeth and some options really weren't suitable for me.
Best £3000 I have ever spent!

dolphinsarentcommon · 11/08/2022 22:33

@KyaClark your teeth are fantastic. Really lovely.

WinterDeWinter · 11/08/2022 22:37

@KyaClark agree your teeth are lovely - but I thought they were pretty damn good before!

kellyb85 · 11/08/2022 22:51

Ooo I am so interested in this thread. I have been thinking about this for YEARS. I have just ordered an impression set from straight teeth direct which has arrived but for some reason I can’t bring myself to do the impression kit. Has anyone had experience with straight teeth direct? They are almost half the price and reviews are fantastic.
im so depressed with my teeth. 10 years ago they were perfect but for last 10 years the front tooth has twisted and stuck right out. It’s awful!!! Why is it always the front teeth that twist out why couldn’t it be a back tooth that no1 would notice. I’m so self conscious but also worried about paying the price especially with the cost of living crises. I have a lot of debt which will be fully paid off in 5 years. When all that is paid off me and husband will have a hell of a lot more disposable income. Do I wait 5 years or do I just add this onto the huge amount of debt we already have

Bloops · 11/08/2022 22:54

I just finished 2 years of traditional braces and it's the best thing I've EVER done! I wasn't keen on Invisalign. There's a lot more to orthodontics than just cosmetic reasons. It's for aligning your bite properly, which is incredibly important. Something for you to think about :) either way, I doubt you would ever regret having a nicer smile!

DivaBeliever · 11/08/2022 22:56

Yes

OhGoodnessItsSoExhausting · 11/08/2022 23:07

I'm Getting new braces in 3 weeks! Have wanted to sort my teeth out for years! I can't wait! 😬

When I had my initial appointment I had gone with the intention of Invisalign, but I came out having chosen white/clear train tracks instead. They were cheaper, appear to do a better and quicker job, and to be honest I thought they looked better than the invisalign (which you can see a bit and I think they looked odd when the dental nurse showed me them on some dummy teeth!)

LC84 · 11/08/2022 23:18

I had Invisalign and am really pleased with the results - my teeth werent awful but were crowded so couldnt floss between them and a few of my teeth were being pushed forward through gums. It was about £3.5k and i was really unsure spending that amount but looking back Im glad I did as now as well as them looking great, they are so easy to keep clean and healthy which was really important to me!

It is a lot of faff and more annoying/uncomfortable at first than I expected but soon got used to it!

KittyKel · 11/08/2022 23:19

I’ve had Invisalign years ago and yes they made a massive difference to my confidence but I haven’t worn my retainers enough and they’ve started to move again! Grrr
