To ask if you found Invisalign worth it?

Been quoted upwards of €4500 for Invisalign. It’s mostly for cosmetic purposes, eg. it’s not a major case but as I feel my teeth have started to move and there’s a bit of overcrowding, I decided to look into it. I earn an alright wage (think low to mid twenties range) with no DC yet, and we’re renting so don’t have a mortgage yet. DH suggested waiting until I’m earning more (hopefully) and not rush into it but I’m thinking the longer I wait, the more responsibilities we may have then and I’d probably benefit more
by starting it as early as possible? Just looking for thoughts, really!

Looked into Invisalign but was a bit pricey for me so found a Groupon offer that offered 'Quick Straight Teeth' at a local dentist instead. Had top row of teeth done for £1200 aged 25 before I got married at 27 and it was the best thing I've ever done, took 6 months in total. I was very nervous and after the consultation it took me a while to actually decide to do it but so glad I did. You won't regret it. See if there are any good deals on Groupon and check the reputation of the dentist (I had a friend who had done the same offer 6 months before so knew it was legit)

I did it at 37. Best thing I did for myself. Highly recommend!

Definitely worth it for us. Mine was minor in comparison to DH but had mine gone unchecked, my teeth would have become more misaligned as I got older - they'd definitely moved from when I'd had a brace when younger and it was clear to see. The confidence DH has now is huge, he hated smiling, hated his teeth / jawline due to his parents simply not bothering when he was younger.
It took 6 months of aligners for me and 8 for DH.

I’m on week 6 with mine. Already you can see a change. I had/have awful teeth. Bad overbite, uneven and the bottom teeth have been ground down from years of grinding my teeth. The plan is the straighten the out and then build them up. The treatment is £2700 + whitening (£400?). My dentist offers a 12 month interest free payment scheme, so the £235 a month isn’t that bad. Yes, it a pain to keep them in for 22 hours per day, but you soon get used to it. I have new aligners approx every two weeks and the first day of the new aligners is always a bit uncomfortable, but so far, I’m really impressed.
Go for it!

Personally I would really avoid going for anywhere offering a groupon deal.

teeth are not a joke and you are better off having an assessment with a proper orthodontist, not a cosmetic dentist, who can advise if Invisalign is right for you. I had a fixed brace because 2 separate orthodontists recommended that as the right option for me.

florianfortescue · 12/08/2022 09:07

A thousand times yes. I did it for my wedding. £4K and I've never regretted a penny of it. People compliment me on my smile now and I used to have Kirsten Dunst snaggleteeth.

The cost will vary according to your individual needs

Better to consult an orthodontist for advice

My daughter chose invisalign as it would take half the time of traditional braces. She uploaded photos via an app, so orthodontist could monitor progress. It's been amazing. Worth every penny

OP, I'd say that if you are keen to have braces, you may as well go for it sooner rather than later, for maximum benefit. Although personally, I think I would prioritise a mortgage over cosmetic issues

MyPenIsHuge · 12/08/2022 13:28

I considered it but it was £6000 all in vs £2300 all in for train tracks so I went for metal braces and have no regrets at all. I've enjoyed the crazy colours and nobody has said anything about them other than positive things. Plenty of adults have braces now. I decided cheaper braces and use the "free" money for a holiday and some house renovation.

FuzzySock · 12/08/2022 13:34

Hi all,

thanks for your stories - to clarify, it is my actual orthodontist who quoted it to me and a traditional train track brace was not advised, I was told Invisalign would be more suited to my personal needs. I think I’m going to do it!

Completely worth it! Am on tray 12 of 21 and the difference already is amazing, have 13 attachments which I was worried about to start with but they don't notice at all, takes a bit of getting used to but also good for stopping snacking and have lost over 3 stone 😁was dieting anyway but has helped! I say go for it!

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/08/2022 13:41

Yes, absolutely yes. My teeth are awesome now and I complimented on them regularly. Expensive and painful at times in the process but soooo worth it
