How far is too far for one night?

A friends hen do where the location was changed after I had confirmed I was going. It changes it from a 4 hour drive to a 6 hour drive. It’s just one night. I would really like to go but wondering if it’s worth it?! I can’t get extra time off work to travel closer the night before or make it a longer trip, plus can’t leave my DC for any longer.

No train station nearby so public transport/flight not an option.

I feel like lots of people would just make the effort and go? But would they really?

Cost as well as time would be an issue for me

how much are you willing to spend on a hen do?

balalake · 11/08/2022 08:50

Politely decline. Too far in my opinion.

It is a lot but it's a one off?

Why can't your DH look after the kids whilst you drive down the night before?

Essexgalttc · 11/08/2022 10:02

6 hours is too far from one night. I’d probably do 3 or maybe 4 for a hen do one off for 6 hours is a lot wether you have a DC at home or not.

My friend wanted to go 4 hour drive for her hen do but now she’s changed it to 1 hour distance instead as people said that’s too far for one night and they couldn’t drink

The more ridiculous the hen party the more ridiculous the divorce

Feeellostindirection · 11/08/2022 12:23

Nope,no way on earth

onelittlefrog · 11/08/2022 12:30

Around 3 hours maximum for a night for me. If it was a good friend and I really wanted to go I would just book another night (if I could afford it), otherwise wouldn't go.

Thanks for opinions everyone.

I do regularly drive 4 hours to see family so not really a stranger to long distance, but it’s usually for 2 nights.

@thenewduchessoflapland my DP is working and won’t get home until the early hours Saturday morning. It’s this that has scuppered plans really as could have gone the night before!

@Ilovemycat1 i don’t think a 1 hour drive for most is a ridiculous hen do? It’s not the brides fault I moved so far away. I guess if it was in her city it would be much easier to get to though so I take your point!
