?Rubella/measles (fully vax) adult

Hello

A bit strange I know but anyway I’ve had to go home sick from work with strange symptoms - joint pain, feverish, dizzy. Also cold like symptoms.

Anyway I’ve had these symptoms (but mild) for a week or two, thought nothing of it. Plus red eyes, swollen glands.

When I got home I’ve noticed a rash. A strange rash that I didn’t ever have before.

its not meningitis as I have no sensitivity to light, can move neck to chest etc.

It looks like a measles / rubella rash.

I’ve also not ruled out shingles but have seen shingles a lot and it doesn’t look like it.

any thoughts welcome I’m drinking water and dosing up

You say fully vaccinated adult, but that depends upon your age. I haven’t had the MMR jab, just rubella.

Discovereads · 09/08/2022 21:40

Id see a GP as could be scarlet fever for which there is no vaccine. It’s unlikely you have rubella/measles if you’ve been fully vaccinated for them.

Hi should’ve put this in but forgot I’ve had MMRx2 as a child. Over 20 years ago

Scarlet fever?

KangarooKenny · 09/08/2022 21:43

DD had scarlet fever. She had a ‘strawberry’ tongue and her rash felt dry/sand paper like.

Georgeandzippyzoo · 09/08/2022 21:43

Even vaccinated you can still get measles etc. It just cuts the severity of the illness.

Tirednortherner · 09/08/2022 21:44

@BakedTattie @KangarooKenny

thanks, never even realised scarlet fever was still a thing. Rash also looks similar to measles and rubella so a likely option

This was what I’d read. Also some evidence coming out that having covid can cause a wane in immunity (had covid twice).

Still I’m hoping it’s not measles or rubella

After 2 doses, the MMR is 99% effective at preventing catching measles or rubella. So OP could be in the 1%, but unlikely especially as only 1 case of measles reported in England this year so far on a person who caught it in Pakistan and came home sick and zero cases of rubella reported so far this year.

KangarooKenny · 09/08/2022 21:52

No vaccine lasts forever.

NotReallySure · 09/08/2022 21:56

Is it just a normal viral rash? Can look similar, I had a very widespread and obvious one last time I had a viral infection

Thanks this is very reassuring

I don’t live in England but looked up data and appears to have been only 2 measles cases, no rubella, a few mumps but I know it’s not that

I’ve had parvovirus (slapped cheek) as an adult and the symptoms were very similar to those you’ve described. Felt unwell for a few days, particularly fever and pain behind the eyes, before the rash arrived. However, the rash didn’t really present itself on the cheeks like in children, but was an all over lacy-looking rash.

Tirednortherner · 09/08/2022 22:06

Hi everyone

thanks for all posts.

My friend (who is a dr) has seen photos of the rash and after face timing me reckons it is scarlet fever.

I will contact the GP tomorrow to keep myself right with work.

thanks again - who’d have thought it

If you’re pregnant best to see GP and have lab test done to see what it is even though sounds mild- just in case. (Don’t know if you are or not).

RafaistheKingofClay · 09/08/2022 22:11

At the risk of someone complaining that not everything is covid, have you ruled out covid? All of those things you’ve listed are symptoms of covid. (Although tbh there aren’t many things that couldn’t be on a list of covid symptoms).

RafaistheKingofClay · 09/08/2022 22:12

Scarlet fever also a good shout. There’s a lot of that about at the moment too. A few of my friends kids have had it over the last few months.

Yea - first thought was covid but had it twice before (plus 3 vaccines not that it makes much difference) and 10 negative LFTs and 2 rapid tests negative 🤣 this feels v different

Monkeypox? Only asking because your symptoms sound like a guy I was just reading about who thought he had flu or covid but it was monkeypox.

Tulipvase · 09/08/2022 22:16

Scarlet fever is unusual in adults though not unheard of. Could it be a post viral rash?

Tulipvase · 09/08/2022 22:18

If it is scarlet fever, for children at least, that requires 24 hours of ABs before a return to school/work.

😂 Sounds like me with an asthma flare up in the middle of a huge covid outbreak at work.

Thanks did briefly consider it but highly highly unlikely. I have had no contact with an infected individual plus do not have sex with men

Due to the nature of my work this is likely also.
