Going to Walt Disney world next month. Autistic teen son wants to get some Minnie ears. I think we should let him get some (and he's using his spending money) but husband calmly spoke to me (not in front of our son) and said he doesn't think we should let him. What would you do? He’s worried about people picking on him. Me and his sisters will have Minnie ears like we did last time. WIBU to let him buy Minnie ears? What would you do in this situation? Thanks in advance xx

Let him have some if that's what he wants.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 09/08/2022 12:22

No one will bat an eye at it surely. I don’t really understand why your DH is against it. Would he object if he wanted Mickey ears? Is he worried people will think his DS is gay because he’s wearing Minnie not Mickey ears? He’s in Disney ffs 🙄

AryaStarkWolf · 09/08/2022 12:23

Yeah no one is going to say a thing or probably even notice ....

Our son had a mickey ear hat last time but this time he wants proper Minnie ears like me and his sisters. I think I’ll just let him get some tbh

Let him have them. He wants to join in.

DorisWallis · 09/08/2022 12:28

I wouldn't upset him by not0 allowing him to wear them when you and most of the punters will be wearing something Disney
You'll all fit right in
Hope you all have an amazing time @Cocacolaforlife

Nobody at Disneyland is going to care what bloody ears your son is wearing. Your DH is ridiculous. Why on earth shouldn't he wear Minnie ears?! It's Disneyland.

Also, who does he think is going to pick on your son when he's at Disneyland with the whole family? Does he think someone's going to come up to him while you're all together and start bullying him right in front of you?!

This is such a non-issue and your DH is being weird.

Curiosity101 · 09/08/2022 12:33

No one is going to bat an eyelid. Your DH is wrong to worry people will pick on him at Disney World.

However, do you mean Mickey ears - which are just ears on a headband, or Minnie ears - ears on a headband but with a bow as well? Not that it will matter either way IMO, but maybe your DH will be less resistant to Mickey ears.

There are tonnes of both types available online. There are all different styles and designs. People also make custom ones on Facebook and Etsy.

Skinnermarink · 09/08/2022 12:35

It’s Disney. You’ve got grown arse adults prancing about in princess dresses for goodness sake. No will be remotely bothered about a teenager wearing mouse ears. It just will not be even worthy of a second glance.

you see what appear to be motor bike gang members with the damn things, no one will notice!

pinkstripeycat · 09/08/2022 12:38

No one will care.

Mally100 · 09/08/2022 12:38

Agree with the others. Who are these people that your dh thinks will make fun of him? Why does he care about random people. Everyone will be too busy with their own stuff.

Soubriquet · 09/08/2022 12:38

No one will care. Your dh is putting his own feelings above your ds’s. Let him have them

Fushiadreams · 09/08/2022 12:40

Is there something wrong with your husband? Why would anyone remotely give a shit never mind pick on your son for what ears he’s wearing ar Disney?

berksandbeyond · 09/08/2022 12:45

Not a single person will care (other than your husband by the sounds of it)
Let him have what he wants, Disney is for magic

LiarLiarKnickersAblaze · 09/08/2022 12:45

Clearly the husband is showing concern and care here. He’s sensitive to his son being bullied, can we stop ostracising him for that? I think the answers on this thread provide enough reassurance for your DH that everyone dresses up and he won’t look weird doing it, it’s all part of the magic and fun on the day x

Hoppinggreen · 09/08/2022 12:46

I think your H is just concerned and in another location I might agree with him but at Disney nobody will care or even notice

lennylion · 09/08/2022 12:49

Get your DH to dress up as something like Cinderella, if he's worried. That will distract these mythical people who're going to pick on him

SnarkyBag · 09/08/2022 12:51

Minnie ears are fine I wouldn’t give it another thought. If you can’t indulge yourself at Disneyland then the world is a sad place!

Figmentofimagination · 09/08/2022 12:58

I promise at Disney no one will care. I have been to Disney World a lot over the last 30 years and I have seen an array of different headwear/matching T-shirts etc. You see grown men wearing giant goofy hats or stitch ears. There will be people disneybounding in outfits themed after their favourite characters (can't wear the actual outfits as adults). People carry their lightsabers around or have a cuddly toy sat on their shoulder (shoulder pal).
There will be ears with no bow/normal bow/big bow/just a giant bow without the ears and there are ears with a fabric band and Velcro instead of harder headband for people who can't wear normal headbands.
As long as what your son is wearing is not deemed inappropriate/offensive/dangerous he can wear what he wants.

Figmentofimagination · 09/08/2022 13:03

And when I say giant goofy hat I mean this massive thing.

To ask what you would do about this?
excitingusername · 09/08/2022 13:12

I find women usually think differently about these things (and get fiercely indignant) but maybe let your husband make this parenting decision for your son. Maybe there is something to be said for helping him grow up and showing him male boundaries about certain things. Maybe this stuff matters. Just an unpopular opinion I'm sure.

Male boundaries and wearing Minnie ears 🙄🙄🙄🙄

I'm going to WDW next month - if I see your son in a set of Minnie ears I'll give him a high five!

Let him have what he wants. There's no judgement in WDW (I had a male cast member lusting over my sparkly Minnie T-shirt last time I was there!)
