This simply isn’t manageable for the majority of people.

Where’s this going to end?

Your electricity is quite above average (2900) and gas well below (12000 which are the numbers used for the bill costs in news).

You must have been on VERY low fix prices per kwh to have 110 DD and accumulate that credit. Jump to current prices could cause the jump in DD tbh. Electricity REALLY jumped up (especially the bloody standing charge)

FourTeaFallOut · 13/08/2022 19:44

Do you have the unit prices that you fixed at to hand?

cakeorwine · 13/08/2022 20:07

4000 electric @ 50p a unit (which maybe where it's going) is £2000 a year
7200 gas @ say 10p a unit is £720 a year

So that's £2720 plus standing charges - let's say £1 a day - so £365

Roughly £3000 a year. Deduct £600 credit. You are also going to get £400 from the Government - so maybe £2000 a year will be your bill

£2000 / 12 = £167 a month

And that is why I pay monthly on receipt of bill

(But you need to know the actual unit costs)

FourTeaFallOut · 13/08/2022 20:10

There's no way you'd find a fix with gas at 10p/kWh now. I've seen tariffs between 15p to 19p lately.

Bubblebubblebah · 13/08/2022 20:12

Bloody hell.
Looks like it might be same or even cheaper to stay on cap rather than fix😳

They are going to announce the price for each unit soon.

You need to know the price of the unit - so you can calculate yourself what to do.

Bubblebubblebah · 13/08/2022 20:18

I am anal so I know mine. Considered going on normal meter and fixed dd and the prices per kwh (that few it showed🙄)were nearly double what I pay now so waiting game it is

FourTeaFallOut · 13/08/2022 20:19

What are the exit fees? If you have fixed at a very high rate it might be £0. In which case you could fix now and then make an informed decision when the new rate is announced?

Honestly as long as the cap rate is about the same as discussed so far it makes no difference really with the unit prices to my bill.
It's fascinating in some way isn't it. My prepayment variable is suddenly the same like fixed credit😳

The new fix they have put me on is 68p kWh for electric and 19p for gas.

No exit fee.

AtomicBlondeRose · 14/08/2022 09:12

I wouldn’t fix at that price.

Isn't that even more than the predicted cap? Like I know you have no exit fees so can leave but you will still be paying lot more than on variable for a while hence spending more than on cap. If I am making sense.

FourTeaFallOut · 14/08/2022 09:29

68p/kWh? Holy Shit.

Kittyhoward · 14/08/2022 09:57

I think the prospect of this winter is far more alarming than Covid ever was. So many vulnerable people will switch their heating off and suffer (or worse)

Nidan2Sandan · 14/08/2022 11:49

Where can I find a list of the predicted price kwh as I cannot find it anywhere. Just the headlines "predicted to hit £xxxx thousands" so I really am panicking not knowing whether to stay on this new fix or not 😥

Nidan2Sandan · 14/08/2022 11:51

I'm worried if I dont fix, by January the variable rate will be even higher and a fix will be even higher!!

I go with them using the average use for these so going by that it should be 2.2 more than it is now. Might be wrong. I do wish they stopped using that and just said what the cap will be per unit and standing charge🙄
IF it is 2.2 then the cap unit would for electricity would be 61p and gas 15.4.

Happy to be corrected!

I just found an article predicting 72p/kwh in January for electric

Bubblebubblebah · 14/08/2022 12:10

Bluegh.

Emigrating it is

FourTeaFallOut · 14/08/2022 12:15

Ok, I found this from a poster on MSE - which is straight up nicking but hopefully that won't be frowned upon too badly given the circumstances, who linked to these predictions being made for the unit costs in the coming months.

All the caveats around this being a prediction...

To where? A place that doesn’t use energy?

Dissimilitude · 14/08/2022 16:16

@Bubblebubblebah those unit cost rises next year are scary.

If they are plausible it’s almost worth fixing at the exorbitant rate I’m being offered now (15p gas, 52p electric).

Dissimilitude · 14/08/2022 16:17

Sorry I meant @FourTeaFallOut

Several news channels have reported the UK has a 215% increase in prices, EU average is 47%.

Not sure on the accuracy of these claims but no one from Govt or industry seems keen to talk about this difference.

Thanks for that -.both terrifying and useful.
