What did you give your dc for their 18th birthday?

Was it well received?
If it wasn't well received, did they receive anything from someone else which they really valued or appreciated?
Approximate cost?
What did you yourself get if you remember (I don't remember)?
What would you have liked to receive?
Any other input?
Suggestions welcome from those who haven't hit the 18 milestone yet or from anyone really.
Would you suggest longevity (jewellery), or an experience, or some tech?
I'm at a loss but it's for my dd. I deliberately didn't specify the sex in the title as some gifts can cross over and there will be female equivalents.

Sounds like he was either having a laugh or genuinely upstaged

Let's hope he was having a laugh.

I gave them all expensive watches. The first was left in a drawer and ignored as it was gold not silver. It was only when I was just about to give it to someone she wanted it back! The other two were fairly gratefully received, at least until one was given a better one by a boyfriend and the other child found out about designer models! My parents gave me nothing.

I had jewellery but my ds had cash and a few bits of clothing, some beers in a handmade crate/box as a keepsake as engraved with name , favourite rugby team and 18

Long time ago, but my parents let my siblings and I choose. Things like a camera, leather jacket, mobile phone. Ok I'm showing my age lol but the principle stands - ask them :-)
