I only have apple maps on my iPhone but my friend recently suggested I should install Google maps as apparently it’s better? Xx

Google maps is rubbish. A couple of times it's told me there's no route to somewhere. But it's up the road and turn right or something. And it's told me there's a route there - walking along a busy A Road.

Oh that’s not that good! I wouldn’t be happy if I had Android and it did that to me xx

google on iPhone- didn’t realise apple maps existed.

To those who recommend it how is waxes better?

Wavygravy1 · 08/08/2022 17:39

I have an iPhone but use google maps

FilePhoto · 08/08/2022 17:44

Google maps.

The one time I was with someone using apple maps we got totally lost. Maps insisted we were at our destination. We weren't. We were in the middle of a housing estate.

We switched to my android and Google maps and it took us straight there. We were about 5 miles away so it wasn't remotely accurate.

throwaway5001 · 08/08/2022 17:46

What kind of directions are you looking for? Walking? Driving? Public transport?

MarthaJonesPhone · 08/08/2022 17:58

Better directions, up to date traffic, you can see at a glance whether there is heavy traffic. Street view, in Google you can go into street view and follow a route. In Apple it just shows you a view of where you have dropped a pin. Clear driving directions. I'm sure there is more. IMHO Apple maps are clunky and basic.

willithappen · 08/08/2022 18:29

Have an iPhone and just use the maps already on. Can't be bothered with downloading Google maps to have another app on my phone when Apple maps does the job fine

I use Google maps, never had a problem with it. I've never used Apple.

lisavanderpumpscloset · 08/08/2022 18:45

I have an iPhone. Can't bear Apple maps. Much prefer Google

Mapletreelane · 08/08/2022 18:52

We use Google maps here and in Europe. We tow a caravan so crucial that the info is correct as it's not easy reversing one of those in a tight spot. Had one or two glitches but on the whole it's excellent(a godsend Was in a friend's car last week on a long journey and she was using Apple maps. Was quite surprised at how poor it was. Went round quite a few roundabouts several times.

girlfrien · 08/08/2022 19:01

I Don't bother I stop and ask people.

tokyotea · 08/08/2022 19:01

Waze for driving and Google maps for walking

BlueWhat · 08/08/2022 19:07

Have iPhone use google maps. I know you keep asking why, but I can't explain it.

Apple maps seems old and clunky.

I just much prefer google maps so

Changingmynameyetagain · 08/08/2022 19:12

I use Google Maps.
I used Apple maps once driving through the Yorkshire dales and it gave me the most ridiculous directions down tiny tracks, I was so lost.
On the way home I managed to download Google maps and it directed me straight to the A1.

The maps icon on your phone is Apple maps. It comes as standard.

Melassa · 08/08/2022 19:15

Apple maps here too. At first it was shite and I did use Waze for a while, but now it’s loads better, plus more up to date for traffic and speed cameras etc. I can also get public transport on it that gives me better options than Moovit.

I’ve also noticed that both Google and Waze seem to have got some deal going with the local motorways (where I live there are motorway tolls). The default choice of route always seems to take you a roundabout way that just happens to involve an expensive stretch of motorway. Only the other week I was out with friends, their Waze was giving them 9.4km to home via some random stretch of toll road and my Apple maps gave us 5km and we were back in less time and not a motorway in sight. Could just be coincidence but others have mentioned the same recently.

toastofthetown · 08/08/2022 19:15

I use Google Maps. In general I use Apple for most things, but Apple Maps has led me to the wrong places enough times that I don't trust it completely any more. I keep both on my phone though.

Chillow · 08/08/2022 19:16

Apple maps, always.

Have tried Google maps and the interface is so bad.

It sounds like you think there's an objective answer to why one is better than the other

There isn't, it's totally user preference like a search engine or the way you like your tea

Never mind what anyone else likes, try them both and decide which one you prefer, there's no wrong answer 😀

I agree.

I mostly use Apple Maps, much prefer the interface.

I use Google Maps for pin drops sent for my DC matches - so to v specific pitches which are not searchable on Apple Maps. I still hate it. I think the instructions come marginally too late / early so I'm never quite prepared or else just miss the turn etc.

FuzzyPuffling · 08/08/2022 19:20

Ordnance survey paper maps for me. No electricity needed.
