Not paying for childcare this autumn as bills go up

Essenceandvibes · 08/08/2022 10:35

I've just had an epiphany.....I absolutely won't be paying a penny for childcare this autumn as bills increase and I won't be made to feel guilty about it either. I can work from home and watch my baby and pick up my 10 year old from school without the assistance of anyone else and if my employer has an issue with it, he can pay an extra £2000 per month post tax to cover the cost of full time help.

Our bills are going to be about £800 a month just electricity and gas alone for our detached 4 bed house, this isn't even thinking about the increase of petrol or groceries.

The mortgage has also gone up a few hundred quid too....childcare and commuting is now a luxury not necessity and I really hope every parent joins me in asking for employers like it or lump it

Shameful the government have let everything get this far, the knock on effects will be huge

Get an au pair or two - maybe there’s room in the 4 bed house? Then also go part time. Bit of wfh part time, and bit of au pair support. There - childcare issue sorted!

pitchforksandflamethrowers · 08/08/2022 18:09

So I'm gonna buck the mn tread here. Just on mat leave and got a 10% pay bump because my organisation is leaking people. We literally cannot get the bums in seats and it's a high paying job anyway because they were worried I would leave

My manager positioned it as we want you to come back so will pretty much do anything.. a 10% is unheard of in my industry.

I think you have the right of it actually given your in one of the jobs where they don't have enough people ect.

I've been following this thread from the start, she didn't.

If enough people don't like your opinions and report you, MNHQ will delete.

Shame on @MNHQ

I suspect she was deleted because she had multiple accounts and was sock puppeting the thread.

That's awful! Exactly what I'd been thinking too, everyone is entitled to an opinion and as long as it's not bullying, harassment or discriminative, it's not doing any harm.

Shame on Mumsnet, that's appalling

Why should your employer pay for your childcare when you YOU chose to have kids?

rainbowmilk · 08/08/2022 18:13

@pitchforksandflamethrowers I wish in circumstances like this employers would just give everyone a pay rise. It might help keep bums on seats more than giving preferential treatment to one group over another.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 08/08/2022 18:14

To be fair nippy. the OP actually admitted breaking one talk guideline on a deleted post. I’ll not repeat it but they did.

OP was very clear under her alternate user names who she was and that she was only using them because MN had stopped her posting under her original one.

why would that be? Of course MN has now deleted all those comments as well

Oh so I'm guessing you're one of the posters that reported her then because you didn't agree with her opinion?

She made some very salient points which I identify with a lot

I don't disagree. That said my company has been pretty good over the years, but it's not a Uk company so I'm sure that has something to do with it tbh.

If it helps that pay bump will pretty much be absorbed by the cost of living going up but I have to say we are very fortunate.

I really do worry for others not so lucky tbh

She didn't though did she? I was reading the thread the entire time

She said in one post that she'd started trolling because she was shocked by people's responses that they thought she was wrong. Using the word trolling was obviously a trigger for MN.

I didn’t, no. I’ve only reported one person on here and for an utterly vile personal attack. It wasn’t this thread.

ReneBumsWombats · 08/08/2022 18:22

Sockpuppeting is against the rules for obvious reasons. She admitted doing it. I don't know why her original account was barred but it seems obvious that she's not good at staying within the talk guidelines.

bathsh3ba · 08/08/2022 18:22

I don't see why it's always the government's job to sort every problem (especially financial ones). It's not as if every problem can be laid at their door (much as some would like to.)

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 08/08/2022 18:26

I can assure you that she did cookies

sunshine clearly saw it too.

Yep she did, I saw this comment too.

rainbowmilk · 08/08/2022 18:28

Yes, my comment explaining what she did has been deleted for the same reason (sorry @MNHQ!)

Cookiesareworthit · 08/08/2022 18:29

You sure, seems like you had a bit of a personal vendetta against her in your previous post?

AuditAngel · 08/08/2022 18:29

We dismissed an employee recently for failure to perform duties satisfactorily. One of the factors was that her nigh needs son was home every day from 2.30 and her work fell off a cliff

I am sure. She was unpleasant to me on another thread but I didn’t report her there or here.

ChampagneCharlieIsMyName · 08/08/2022 18:31

Best of luck. It’s not your employers job to fix child care. You do und you gave a really shitty attitude?
