Can anyone recommend. Thinking of an Xmas present for the kids and husband but not sure if we’d want them sooner than Xmas.

This thread is slightly old now so some of the suggestions may be out of stock, but if you’ve landed here looking for cosy heated blankets, we’ve recently updated our best heated throw page with loads of great options that have been tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Smile

Thanks I have just ordered one as it is over £10 cheaper than they are on amazon. I will also pass on the link for those I know who are looking for heated throws.

No it's fine

EilonwyWithRedGoldHair · 08/08/2022 12:44

I got mine fairly cheap from Amazon. Read the reviews of the more expensive branded ones and they all seemed to have a similar failure rate. I got the impression they're fairly fragile.

TheQueensCousin · 08/08/2022 13:40

I have a weighted blanket and I used it on the sofa last winter. Obviously it's not heated but it was very cozy.

Mrsfussypants1 · 08/08/2022 13:52

@Cocolapew thank you 😊

CrisisCafe · 08/08/2022 14:10

I've got one from Amazon and one from John Lewis- both the Dreamland brand.
They are FANTASTIC. Don't leave it until it gets cold- it'll be like trying to buy a fan in a heatwave. There'll be few left- and your choice of brand/ size/ colour will be restricted.

CrisisCafe · 08/08/2022 14:15

They're great for wrapping round you- tho technically you're not supposed to sit on them- they are an over blanket.
So they're good to keep me warm when I'm the only one at home but sometimes I wish there was a wireless version so I could get up and make a coffee and take it with me..... I also LOVE mine to wrap round my shoulder. I have arthritis and to get something lovely and warm wrapped all around my shoulder and arm is so comforting. You can wash them in the washing machine- which I think is AMAZING. You have to disconnect the wire, obvs!

Agree with this.

I'm going to have a look at the Lakeland and Amazon recommendations.

I've got the silent night one. Its excellent

Salome61 · 10/08/2022 23:09

Thank you, I've just bought a Dreamland Relaxwell heated throw in grey for my friend's partner's 80ieth birthday in October. They have all the colours, £59.99.

BashfulClam · 10/08/2022 23:22

My brother bought me one for Christmas 2018 and it my favourite thing. It san be washed in the washing machine and doesn’t cost much to run. I got totally soaked once waking from the station on a bitterly cold night. I got home and took off my wet clothes then got under the heated throw for 10 minutes it was bliss. I have bad circulation in my legs and it really helps me.

Trying81 · 10/08/2022 23:27

The Silentnight one pictured is great, good price too currently

bizzey · 11/08/2022 17:44

Thank you for this thread and thank you @Yabado .for that link .

I have now bought 5 Christmas presents !

Hope the heated throws work ...don't fancy trying them out just yet 😂

DarlingCoffee · 11/08/2022 17:47

I’ve ordered mine from Weeklydeals4less which was recommended on here

belinda789 · 11/08/2022 18:07

II have a Beurer HD75 Heated Electric Blanket Throw
SKU: 12240- in grey. It has six heat settings and turns itself off after three hours - if you have gone to sleep, which is a good safety feature. It costs 1p for three hours of electricity. I paid £53.98 for it which includes VAT and delivery. It was a lot less than a Lakeland one but is just as good. If you have a three seater sofa this blanket will cover all of you!!

Cheeselog · 24/08/2022 20:10

Are heated throws the same thing as electric blankets?

ShaunaTheSheep · 25/08/2022 07:27

No. Electric blankets are placed on the bed under the sheet, and switched on to pre-heat (I believe there are some that can be left on but generally they should be switched off before you get into bed).

Throws are fleecy and designed to be draped OVER the body or bed, and can be left switched on. They generally have different heat settings and an automatic switch off after an hour or so.

WantToBeWarm · 25/08/2022 08:12

Are the Lakeland or WeeklyDeals4Less throws velvety to the touch? I have a thing about the feel of velvet - can't stand it!

noctu · 25/08/2022 08:19

I also have this one - well in fact I have two, and my mum and mum's friend both purchased one when they saw mine! Highly recommended, very warm, easy to use, you can tuck yourself in it whilst snuggling on the sofa. And well priced.

noctu · 25/08/2022 08:20

Sorry I mean the WeeklyDeals4Less one!

Just had another look at my WeeklyDeals4Less one. Hard to describe - you wouldn't call it velvet, it's a longer pile, but it's soft.

JuneOsborne · 25/08/2022 08:41

I also got mine from weeklydeals4less (I recommended mine on a couple of threads last year). It's like a thick fleece material.

I properly love mine. I bought another for D's who kept nicking mine. I also have regular blankets and weighted blankets (I feel the cold!) And the heated throw is my go to. Great for wfh and not heating the house. It gets seriously cozy under there!

Somethingsnappy · 25/08/2022 09:06

Never heard of them, but they sound lovely!

Cheeselog · 25/08/2022 09:14

@ShaunaTheSheep thanks! Do you know if there is a fire risk with heated throws - I’m guessing less than electric blankets? I was put off electric blankets from a young age when the fire service came to my school and said they cause thousands of fires a year!
