Hose pipe ban, paddling pool V hot tub

We are due to come into one next week, apparently you can't fill up a paddling pool for kids to play in, but it's OK to fill up a sex pond which takes far more water - how's that fair?

Where’s this? Hot tub filling banned in Hampshire, as is to ping up swimming pools.

Bottlesandjars · 07/08/2022 20:27

Well that does seem unfair. I would still fill up a little paddling pool if I had one I can’t imagine they’ll be knocking on doors checking

HannahSternDefoe · 07/08/2022 20:28

Apparently you can use a hose pipe to fill your watering can...why not put the hose in the watering can and tip that into your paddling pool (or for watering your plants)...🤫

If you have a pool, then you cannot fill that with a hosepipe, unless it's being filled as part of its construction. You also cannot fill a paddling pool either, although you are allowed to fill a hot tub.

Well that's ludicrous. Paddling pools use a lot less water than a hot tub?

Is it maybe because the hot tub 'keeps' the water whereas you would empty a paddling pool daily?

UrsulaPandress · 07/08/2022 20:38

Why the fuck would you feel the need to do either?

<walks off muttering>

minisoksmakehardwork · 07/08/2022 20:38

@Blinkingheckythump - maybe the expectation is people will be changing paddling pool water a lot more frequently than a hot tub?

I recall my parents would tip paddling pool water out every night because it was grim with us dashing in and out all day. They'd water the lawn with it. Therefore a new day would mean fresh water.

These days larger pop up pool use chlorine etc to maintain them but a toddler's paddling pool would not be big enough for that.

Blinkingheckythump · 07/08/2022 20:46

I mean I guess it all depends. A kids 3 ring tiny one even filled three times (once a day for the what 3 days we'll probably have hot weather) would use less than a hot tub. And as said some pools use filters etc now to keep them clean for longer

AllFreeOwls · 07/08/2022 20:50

I guess because you generally empty a paddling pool each day, unlike a hot tub.

maddiemookins16mum · 07/08/2022 20:52

Meh, you can fill a paddling pool with some buckets of water from the tap and use said water to water your plants, job done.

girlmom21 · 07/08/2022 20:54

There's a ban for a reason. It doesn't matter what's fair. Just be reasonable about it.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 07/08/2022 21:01

You can put Milton sterilising tablets into a small paddling pool to stop the water going scummy for a few days and cover it with a fitted sheet or tarp at night.

We have a small paddling pool for DD and do not refill it daily because it's a waste of water.

But yes it is a stupid disparity and nobody needs either a paddling pool or a hot tub so if there's a hosepipe ban both should be banned.

godmum56 · 07/08/2022 21:20

this is from the Southerm water website I would say that line six covers hot tubs and that its therefore banned.
What activities are now restricted under the Temporary Use Ban (TUB)?
We are encouraging everyone to do their bit and help us save water to protect our rivers. We all need to use water wisely and avoid the following activities:

Watering a garden using a hosepipe
Cleaning a private motor-vehicle using a hosepipe

Watering plants on domestic or other non-commercial premises using a hosepipe

Cleaning a private leisure boat using a hosepipe
Filling or maintaining a domestic swimming or paddling pool

Drawing water, using a hosepipe, for domestic recreational use

Filling or maintaining a domestic pond using a hosepipe
Filling or maintaining an ornamental fountain
Cleaning walls, or windows, of domestic premises using a hosepipe

Cleaning paths or patios using a hosepipe
Cleaning other artificial outdoor surfaces using a hosepipe.

It's irrelevant really very few people follow bans and nobody is sending drones out !

Sunnyqueen · 07/08/2022 21:23

I would fill the pool up now, cover it and get the necessary cleaning stuff to maintain the water.

I'm (probably irrationally) really pissed off Bout hosepipe bans. So much lost in leaks, so much wasted. Someone needs to make a plan for when our summers get worse.

I won't use a hose but I will water my plants that are producing food or are valuable.

(My pissed off ness is mainly cos all our utilities are either expensive or crap. Even the bloody bin men. )

Trouble is if noone follows the ban there still won't be water and we'll be forced to use stand-pipes on the street.

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/08/2022 21:32

I use a watering can to water my veg and plants in pots.

LondonLovie · 07/08/2022 21:38

Cover and then chlorine tablets of Amazon. Lasts about a week

Somanysocks · 07/08/2022 21:45

Neither a paddling pool or a hot tub are necessary though are they?

IncessantNameChanger · 07/08/2022 21:48

Is this all of Hampshire? Dh says it's not as were not Southern water or it's only parts of Hampshire?

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/08/2022 21:54

Southern Water and South East Water are introducing a ban August 12th.

No, it's only the parts supplied by Southern Water. Those of us supplied by Portsmouth Water, for example, are not affected.

Quite frankly, given that Southern charge us twice as much as Portsmouth (Southern provide sewerage), yet they routinely pollute our beaches and lose I don't even know how much in leaks they can't be arsed to repair, they can get to fuck. Fix the system.
