Kicked off the TV at 10pm most nights by DH so he can watch the news

So again tonight in the middle of watching a programme DH says it’s time to watch the news at 10pm. Now why can’t he just watch on it on a tablet/iPad? Why do I have to stop what I’m watching and go onto the iPad or just stop watching TV and go to bed. It’s not every night he does this but I feel like I am being bullied when he does.

Buy a second TV, he can go and watch that if your show hasn't finished.

Runningintolife · 06/08/2022 17:46

Could you say 'no, that's not convenient for me right now'?

tulippa · 06/08/2022 17:46

Is this not something you would discuss together? DH and I don't always like the same things but we'll find times to catch up on those separately. Certainly wouldn't just chuck each other off the TV - we would at least talk about it.
News isn't something you have to watch at a certain time. It's on constantly on the news channels.

@saltinesandcoffeecups

Seriously buy another tv…there are some things in life that just aren’t worth the argument.

^^ agree 100%

We have another TV in the kitchen - saves a lot of problems !

HashtagShitShop · 06/08/2022 17:53

I could perhaps understand this back when there wasnt rolling news channels or the access to a phone /laptop /tablet to watch (or read the websites) but now...? What a dick.

PeekAtYou · 06/08/2022 17:55

If you are watching tv when he wants to watch the news then yanbu.
If you are in the living room (say reading) and he switches the tv on at 10pm then yabu and need to compromise at least half of the time.

Don't people in the UK have TVs in their bedroom as well as the loungeroom? It's standard where I am.
No, it's a place of relaxation so TVs firmly out of the bedrooms (teens have gaming monitors in their rooms but they're switched off before bed).
We do have 4 TVs downstairs though. Only one has BT Sports attached which my husband watches about once a month when there's a particularly good football match on and he's really thoughtful and always asks hours beforehand if anyone minds. Is it a Smart TV? You can catch up on the news together afterwards?

SarahSissions · 06/08/2022 18:15

What time do you start watching the TV? If you’ve been watching your programmes for a couple of hours I don’t think he’s wrong to want to watch his choice for 30mins before bed.
you also know he likes to watch the news so I think it would be pretty unreasonable to start watching something new just before 10 if you are unwilling to turn it off midway through

No, the bedroom is for bed! I can’t fathom wanting a TV in there.

1982mommaof4 · 06/08/2022 18:21

@SarahSissions most people I know in the UK have a tv in their room. We spend most of winter in bed chilling in the evening.

Ponderingwindow · 06/08/2022 18:29

If there is too much demand for the tv, you need another one.

RedCardigan · 06/08/2022 15:38

Nope, no to in the bedroom for a reason. Works great.
but who still sets their lives by watching the news? Think it’s been a decade since we watched the news!

Proudly announcing to the world that you haven't watched the news for a decade. Signs of societal decay. People should watch the news or read the newspaper. There are so many ignorant people. Don't be one of them.

You can keep abreast of current affairs without having to change channels at a particular time every day to watch a TV programme at the time it is broadcast.

I don't watch linear TV at all. Why would I? It's cheaper to stream programmes than pay a licence fee for live TV, and more convenient to subscribe to the online edition of a broadsheet so that I can pick and choose which articles actually interest me.

mogsrus · 06/08/2022 23:26

What’s so special about news @ 10? You can get the stuff 247 if you that desperate, radio is on the hour ( always wondered why) & there’s always a channel Just for it.

SecretVictoria · 06/08/2022 23:30

Just get another TV. We have more TVs than people and if I could have one in the dining room as well as the other rooms I would.
