To ask how old were your dc when they got chicken pox

DS7 has come down with chicken pox after a few friends in his class at the end of term. I feel like he's one of the last in his class to get it, lots of his peers already had it. Of course DS4 will get it now, just out of interest how old were your DC when they had it? And how long did it take for the siblings to get it?

2&3. It started with 7yo cousin (they were on holiday together, sharing a room), then my eldest a week later than my younger one a week after that. It was a tiring few weeks.

Thatiswild · 05/08/2022 09:58

My DD6 woke up today with it, her twin brother for it 13 days ago, my other two were 3 and 1 when they had it. The incubation period is 10-21 days and they’re infectious for 1-2 days before the spots arrive. It’s rife at the moment according to pharmacist friends of mine!

prepared101 · 05/08/2022 10:01

5 - she got her first spot 3 weeks ago and the last scab fell off a few days ago.

It's everywhere at the moment- it has been going round her year at school for about 4 weeks and they've pretty much all succumbed now.

Tragicroundabout · 05/08/2022 10:02

DS1 was two when he picked it up at nursery. I came down with it about ten days later and then about another ten days later DS2 who was just five weeks old at the time caught it 🙁

JustGettingReady · 05/08/2022 10:05

DS was just about to turn 3 when he got chicken pox. I assume picked up from nursery.

Everyone else in our household had already had it (much older kids, all before DS was born) so thankfully we only had DS chicken pox to contend with at the time.

ohidoliketobe · 05/08/2022 10:06

DC 1 had them twice. Once at 18 months but only a handful of spots so was told probably wouldn't be enough for immunity. Second time at 2.5 when DC 2 was 6 months. She didn't catch them.
DC 2 had them when she was 5. DC 3 was 8 months old and caught them, forst spots came out 3 weeks to the day after DC2's first spots had appeared.

Easiest age to deal with was 8 months- spots looked the worst of the 3 bevause her torso was tiny, but she breezed through it. 2.5 was the hardest - very upset and didn't understand what was going on. 5 year old was miserable but understood, and enjoyed a few duvet days and the fuss

custardbear · 05/08/2022 10:07

11 month old just got a few clusters of spots and wasn't really phased by it
4.5 year old had loads and was more unwell
They both picked it up from someone probably at center parcs on holiday as came down with it within hours of each other

prepared101 · 05/08/2022 10:08

Forgot to say that DD1 was 2 - she'd caught it at nursery/before school started. DD2 spent most of her nursery years in lockdowns/isolation/social distancing so didn't have a chance!

HolidayClubFriends · 05/08/2022 10:09

1st time she was 12 weeks old

2nd time she was 2

3rd time she was 4

4th time she was 8

I only have 1 child as well Shock

JenniferBarkley · 05/08/2022 10:11

It was rampant here in May and June. DD1 is 4, she had one dose of the vaccine when she was 1 and had a very mild dose - she was pretty much completely fine, the staying home was by far the worst of it.

DD2 is two and somehow didn't have it (or at least not that we realised, she has bad skin so we wouldn't notice an occasional spot iykwim) even though she was in the house with her sister and it went around her nursery.

JenniferBarkley · 05/08/2022 10:11

Sorry, meant to say DD2 hasn't had the vaccine.

Mrsjayy · 05/08/2022 10:12

DD1 was 4 dd2 was 17 she was helping out at a kids Christmas party and more than likely caught it there.

Daisytomhope · 05/08/2022 10:15

Dc1 had it aged 11 months and again aged 3.

Dt had it two weeks apart (even though they spent 24 hours a day together aged 3. Dt2 then had it again aged 4 1/2.

Jules912 · 05/08/2022 10:18

DS had it very mildly at 6 months and again at 20 months. Second time very spotty but not too poorly.
DD has just had it at 6 and seemed to be a lot worse with it than DS was. Absolutely covered and feverish for the best part of a week.

Glitterblue · 05/08/2022 10:21

DD was 4, she got it at the end of her first term at school.

cucumberegg · 05/08/2022 10:22

Mine had just turned 2 when she got it from nursery I presume, son had just turned 1 and got it exactly 2 weeks later. Daughter who got it first had a pretty mild case, son who caught it from her had it absolutely horrendous he was covered from head to toe. Lucky they were so little so there was no scratching and scarring.

ArnoldBee · 05/08/2022 10:22

2, 6 and 14!

I was 6, my mum 26 and my dad 45.

Luck of the draw I guess.

MirandaWest · 05/08/2022 10:23

DS was 23 months. DD got it two weeks later when she was 6 weeks

Wouldloveanother · 05/08/2022 10:24

I didn’t get it until I was 13 and it was awful. I was really unwell for weeks. I’ve had DD (3) vaccinated.

SailorVeee · 05/08/2022 10:24

Dd7 had it the beginning of the year, her 3 year old brother didn't catch it from her but picked it up two months later and spread it to his cousins who were 5&9. Half of dds class was wiped out loads of them had missed it because of covid.

CoodleMoodle · 05/08/2022 10:25

DS was 3, nearly 4 and caught them at preschool. He passed them on to DD who came out with spots precisely two weeks later. She was 8 and had avoided them up until then. Neither or them suffered too badly but DS barely noticed them and DD was quite itchy.

WhatHaveIFound · 05/08/2022 10:26

DD was 3, DS is 17 and still hasn't had it despite being at nursery/school from 6 months old.

acorntotree · 05/08/2022 10:27

My two have just had it - ds got it from school and he is aged 6, dd got it from him exactly 2 weeks later, she is 4. I think it is circulating less nowadays because so many people have been immunised, almost all in my ds' class have been, so was glad they finally caught it.

spiderlight · 05/08/2022 10:28

Just about to turn 6. It ripped through his Year 1 class but he had it very mildly - no more than about a dozen spots, barely itchy. He then very randomly had shingles aged 9!
