To ask how the hell you stop your clothes coming out of the washing machine with dust on them?

Long title I know but I hope this makes sense.

Can I ask how people stop their clothes coming out of the washing machine with loads of dust on it? I don’t know how to explain it but everytime I wash my clothes you’d think there was tissue in the drum that broke apart and went all over the clothes. I have to use a lint roll EVERY single time after my clothes have dried because of how it looks.

This never happens to my kids clothes yet I wash everyone’s clothes on the same setting. Does anyone know where I’m going wrong? Is there something I can put in the washing machine to stop this happening? I feel like I’m leaving the house with raggedy looking clothes despite them being clean every single time!

Usually it’s an item of clothing shedding fibres that is the culprit.
Generally, anything wool or made from plastic fibres (polyester, Lycra, etc) will shed in the wash.

Whataretheodds · 04/08/2022 18:46

Have you cleaned the filter recently? And the detergent drawer?

pedropony76 · 04/08/2022 22:08

I’ve never cleaned the filter (I don’t even know what that is!🤦‍♀️) and haven’t cleaned the detergent draw either. I’ll try both of those things. Thank you! @Whataretheodds

Mine don’t 🤷‍♀️

Of our only happens to your clothes it must be something your doing differently on that wash. Different detergent? Or an item of clothing shedding.

Is it normal to wash dcs clothes separately?

Tigofigo · 04/08/2022 22:12

My guess is detergent and optical brighteners. Is it on dark clothes you notice it?

Letshoptoit · 04/08/2022 22:13

Is it a washer dryer? Sounds like your machine needs a clean, check the filter and run a cloth around the seal on the drum, and run your machine for a cycle empty with one of those maintenance capsules. Should be all good
after that.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 04/08/2022 22:14

If it's only your clothes it must be an item in your laundry load that's shedding fibres. I have to wash DDs school jumpers on their own cos they cover everything in bloody fluff.

Or, do you do something like always wash your clothes after the towels, or something else very fibre-y? So fluff from the previous load gets on yours?

BullshitHunter · 04/08/2022 22:18

You need an outhouse really with three washing machines. Use one for corporate clothing, parties and Ascot and that sort of thing. The machine will generally be kept clear of regular dirt and detritus that is on other clothes. A second for general day to day clothing and loungewear around the house. The third is for rougher wear only like gardening clothes, dog blankets and swim wear.

This may sound a little over the top, but your machines will last three times as long and they will produce a better quality garment.

Good grief!
Should she also get the parlourmaid to complete the laundry, while the boot it shines the shoes?!

Check the filter-check the bottom of your machine-it should have a panel-gently pull it off and you’ll see a round ‘plug’
twist it to open it (put a towel down) and put your fingers in and pull out anything that’s in there
(tends to be hair in mine)
put it back by twisting it back into place-carefully-sometimes you can miss the thread and your washer will leak
give the drawer a good wash and run it with a cleaner on an empty load
wipe the seal down too
if all that fails,it’s something in your clothes that’s doing it

You’re mad.
Swimwear is very delicate - hand wash only.

CloudPop · 04/08/2022 22:37

Run the washing machine with no clothes or detergents on a ling hot wash, after clearing filter as others have suggested.

HeliosPurple · 04/08/2022 22:40

And don’t use colour catches without a little washing bag. The washing machine engineer pulled two out of my broken machine today. They had got stuck in the drain pipe. Blinkin things cost me £120 in repairs .

I suppose that was a bit ridiculous. The labrador hair would cling to the bikini.

FilePhoto · 04/08/2022 22:41

How can it be caused by the machine needing a clean if it's only happening to OPs clothes? It would affect everything if that was the cause b

You would put day to day clothes in with loungewear? How dreadfully common! We simply purchased a fourth washing machine and commissioned it its very own outhouse, separate from the others.

Eurgh who wears machine washable garments to Ascot?!? Surely only in the cheap seats at least.

BullshitHunter · 04/08/2022 22:46

Garments? Jesus Christ, those types of things pre-dated washing machines that's for sure.

You need a 4th one for your underwear. You can't wash that in the same machine as other clothes!

I’m a black woman living in SW London. Ascot has and will never see me😂 not sure if this comment was a joke but it did make me chuckle

Thanks for the comments guys.

Yes I do wash my kids clothes separately to mine. I don’t like mixing it all together.

I’ll try all the suggestions mentioned! @Tigofigo yes it only happens when I wash dark clothes. It’s so strange.

I use the same detergent for my clothes and the kids, Fairy non bio. No comforter or anything. It’s weird because I wash different clothes at different times and it still has fluff on it so I’m not sure what item of clothing could be causing it? It’s so irritating but I’m sure one of the suggestions mentioned here will work

No nothing like that at all. I sometimes wash my clothes after I’ve washed both of my babies clothes. Their clothes will come out amazing and mine has so much fluff it’s unbelievable

OP posts:
PickAChew · 04/08/2022 23:25

If you're mixing colours to make up a load, the fluff is more noticeable.
