Would you book to go to Spain at the moment?

We were meant to go in July but had to cancel due to covid and needing a negative pcr test for unvaccinated teen. Looking at booking for august now teens 11 days post positive test are up and notice we will need a recovery certificate but with this we should be fine? Bit worried about strikes that I’ve seen in the news but are planning to go to one of the Canary Islands instead of mainland this time so I think we should be ok for strikes? Also looking at flying with tui who I think are ok strikes wise and cancellations wise. Any thing I’m wrong about? Really can’t bear letting the kids down again.

Which strikes in particular? If your aircraft (and so the aircraft staff) are British bars you shouldn’t have an issue if it’s airline staff strikes.

I'm in Spain, no delays, it's bloody lovely.

AspireMe · 04/08/2022 16:20

A relative of mine has just flown to Spain a few days ago and said that you have to show a Covid passport at Passport Control so you might want to check that your unvaccinated teen is definitely eligible.

AnnPerkins · 04/08/2022 16:21

Family got back from Tenerife yesterday. Flew with easyjet and no delays. Return flight arrived 45 mins early in fact.

Hellzbellz25 · 04/08/2022 16:23

I'm in Fuertaventura at the moment and didn't even have to show our proof of vaccine or negative test on Saturday, I was shocked

Grissini50 · 04/08/2022 16:26

Yes I’m in Menorca and they are doing random tests and we got picked but they just said ‘NHS?’ We said yes and they waved us through. No actual
checking of anything.

ohidoliketobe · 04/08/2022 16:28

Not heard of many people having issues woth Spain recently, and no drama with Canaries - a friend has just got back from 2 weeks in Tenerife and I dropped my Gran at the airport on Tues for her to meet other family members for a holiday in lanzarote. No issues with either.
Although I seem to revall Tui have had the most cancellations recently, didnt theu cancel hundreds of flights lasy month? Jet2 always seem to be pretty reliable in my experience

AspireMe · 04/08/2022 16:29

On the flip side to the last few posts, the relative I mentioned upthread said they saw people getting turned away and refused board due to not having a Covid passport. Not trying to put you off, but just trying to give a balanced argument so you're prepared that its a possibility.

alloalloallo · 04/08/2022 16:29

I’ve just come back from Lanzarote. No issues with the flight

They didn’t ask anyone on our flight for proof of vaccination or negative test.

mac1974 · 04/08/2022 16:31

I'm going on sat. We have 2 kids under 12 &
Both DH & I are vaccinated & boostered I'm not anticipating any problems. I'm not sure why you would get turned away if you have all the correct paperwork?
I haven't heard of any problems

I misread the OP, I thought the teenager was still unvaccinated.

Sofedupofitall · 04/08/2022 16:45

Teenager is still unvaccinated still but if you’ve tested positive in the last x amount of months you can get a recovery certificate. I think that’s because a new pcr could still be positive up to 6 months after you’ve tested positive.

If I had the money and passports I'd love to go!

Sofedupofitall · 04/08/2022 16:47

I’m not so much worried about covid now as th worst happened and we had to cancel our original holiday. I’m more worried about flight cancellations really as don’t want the kids to go through another cancelled holiday. They were so upset when the first one was cancelled.

This is the thing. I know there’s no way we will afford it next year with prices rising and we haven’t been for 5 years previous to this year so it’s a big deal for us. One holiday they found out the day before we went that we couldn’t go and just want the next one to go smoothly.

Check how you can get a recovery certificate first. Unless it was a registered positive PCR, you won’t automatically get one from the NHS. You might have to find a private provider that offers them.

A recovery certificate seems to be in plac of a covid passport as far as I can see.

Thank you. It was a registered one as it was a fit to fly one and we have the paperwork so hopefully be ok.

We've just come back from Spain on Sunday. They did have people asking to see covid passports at the airport but they didn't look at them in detail. Going out our flights/security/luggage reclaim was really quick with no delays. Coming back our flight was delayed by 90 minutes as it was coming from Ibiza to Malaga and was delayed from there - this was with Ryanair who are having strike problems, especially with internal Spanish flights. We had a further 75 minute delay waiting from our luggage at Manchester airport.

Dimples13 · 04/08/2022 16:57

Southern Spain here, no delays at Gatwick, unvaccinated teen had antigen test 24 hours before flight with a fit to fly cert.
its gorgeous here!

Pollydonia · 04/08/2022 17:00

I live in mainland Spain and we had a random Covid cert check on our way back from a visit to the UK this week.
If you can get the recovery certificate then go for it, our now grown up DC still talk about teenage holidays, its important to have this time away if you can.

moreshitandnofuckingredemption · 04/08/2022 17:08

Flew into Alicante last week, no delays (except picking up bags on the return flight) and no-one asked to see our Covid paperwork at any point - they had some half-hearted people with laptops at baggage reclaim but we just walked past them all
Sounds like it is extremely hit and miss though!

Robostripes · 04/08/2022 17:10

We are in Gran Canaria at the moment, they did check everyone’s covid passports and scanned the QR codes properly. No delays on the way out here and security at Gatwick was fine.

LizzieMacQueen · 04/08/2022 17:20

The strikes you are talking of, is this the airline staff ? I heard about that on the radio last week. I think they said that they can cover for striking staff but some on board services would have to be cut. I guess that's inflight food & drink.

Sofedupofitall · 04/08/2022 17:22

Yes we’d def get the recovery certificate and therefore should be fine. Other kids are under 12 so don’t need anything and partner and i are vaccinated and boostered so should be fine I guess.
