Would you book to go to Spain at the moment?

We were meant to go in July but had to cancel due to covid and needing a negative pcr test for unvaccinated teen. Looking at booking for august now teens 11 days post positive test are up and notice we will need a recovery certificate but with this we should be fine? Bit worried about strikes that I’ve seen in the news but are planning to go to one of the Canary Islands instead of mainland this time so I think we should be ok for strikes? Also looking at flying with tui who I think are ok strikes wise and cancellations wise. Any thing I’m wrong about? Really can’t bear letting the kids down again.

COVID documents are checked after border control and it all depends on where the flights come from. For UK flights is random, approx. 1 out of every 5 passengers although if the queue is busy they do 1 out of 10. If you have a QR code (NHS vaccine) it is scanned if you have been selected for a random check. Likewise re certificates, etc.
I fly to Alicante regularly so these are the half hearted guys someone was referring to earlier. But they do check.
Controls were very strict until Easter. Nowadays there are no controls at origin or by the airline, but the Spanish Public Health checks are still in place, however on a random basis for most flights.

If it was a recorded test, then download the NHS app on the teenager’s phone and the recovery certificate will appear when you request the Covid passport.

i recently updated my Covid travel passport, and was surprised to see my certificate of recovery.

Does it have to be Spain? France have just dropped all Covid restrictions. Which is a relief with unvaccinated DS 12. We could have done the PCR but still adds a certain stress to the holiday. If you can get proof of recovery then that’s less stress.

Just back from South West Spain - flights etc all fine (Stansted), no delays, plane wasn't even full...

sidheandlight · 04/08/2022 17:57

Anyone know if you are flying to Spain from another EU country, do you still need all the covid stuff?

I’m not so much worried about covid now as th worst happened and we had to cancel our original holiday. I’m more worried about flight cancellations really as don’t want the kids to go through another cancelled holiday. They were so upset when the first one was cancelled.

If you think canceling your holiday is “the worst” that could happen I would love to have your life.

Just back from Barcelona, flew to/from Liverpool. Easyjet. No problems. Had to get a test for unvacinated 12 year old. Took paper as well as electronic evidence of this and my vac certs but they were only cursory checked

LaBrujaPiruja · 04/08/2022 18:13

@sidheandlight
Yes. But I have only seen stringent checks (Alicante and Valencia airports) for arrivals from Morocco, Russia and Algeria.

For goodness sake. It’s the worst that could happen regarding holidays. Obviously no one has died but it’s still been pretty awful for my kids to be all set to go on holiday after many years of not getting away to then find out they can’t go, the day before. It was pretty awful and your snide comment isn’t needed.

Oh really? I’ve looked into it and it seems like I’ll have to pay about £50-£60 for one!

Doesn’t want to be. No time anyway even if they did.

Family got back from Tenerife yesterday. Flew with easyjet and no delays. Return flight arrived 45 mins early in fact.
