3 massive bin bags of toys OH failed to tell me about

So for context we live in a tiny flat and I'm routinely donating toys to charity that my DC have grown out of using as we're short on space. I'm conscious not to buy random things for the sake of it.

I had a missed call from FIL this morning so said to OH I need to call your dad back I didn't hear him call me. OH says oh don't worry about it I've already spoken to him he just wanted to check in and see how we are.

OH leaves for work and an hour later FIL arrives. I had no idea he was coming as OH didn't tell me. Fil comes in struggling with 3 huge bin bags full of toys.

DC are over the moon and excited and before I know it they've ripped open the bags admiring their new treasures.

I'm now in a v awkward position as I don't want to offend FIL or upset the kids but there's no way we have space for this lot. I'm going to call DSC mum shortly and ask whether she/DSC would like some toys.

FIL said OH knew he was coming with the toys, OH just failed to tell me as he knew for a fact I would say I'm not accepting bags and bags of stuff.

AIBU to think OH is a sly git for failing to tell me and buggering off to work?

Well that Stitch teddy is probably worth a tenner or so to someone, stick it on Vinted

Sandrine1982 · 03/08/2022 14:00

I would have a panic attack if this happened to me.

Just seen the extra photos, definitely stick the better stuff on Vinted - any money made you could put in your children's savings :)

TempName01 · 03/08/2022 14:07

Definitely leave it on the floor for your DP to sort out

I’d do this 😂

Or you could put all the teddies on his side of the bed and tell him he has to sleep on the floor/sofa from now on as that's their new home 😁.

Appallingly grabby, basically nicking from a charity shop.

Let them enjoy their haul for a few days and use the opportunity to declutter their existing toys as planned whilst their attention is on the new stuff. Once you've thinned out the old and DCs have had time to test drive the new, the DCs can choose which new bits are keepers. Pass on the rest either to DSC or charity.

I've just got off the phone with DSC's mum, she's happy to have all of the wrestling stuff and any teddies these two don't want. She has much more space than us and has a younger DD the same age as our DD who likes teddies. Thank fuck for that.

She said tell OH to bring it later when he collects DSC. Woohoo.

I must say your FIL scored some very good toys there - I was expecting to see a pile of grotty or broken stuff. But he has made a bunch of children very happy!

Ponderingwindow · 03/08/2022 14:57

Glad to see you are embracing the chaos for a bit. The kids will enjoy the toy bonanza and it can then quickly be trimmed.
