The other day at the doctor's surgery, there was a really neat mum with a toddler and a tiny. She was so neat and tidy, children were sweet and well behaved and the little one was being fed a home made pot of something all nicely. Without gagging.
I took stock of my ill fitting clothes, ever expanding waistline, hair that has not seen a brush for weeks, wellies covered with hen poop, (we have been snowed in here)...I just wondered, how the hell do some folk manage to be so organised?

When I worked full time, before kids, I was a slob! DH did the hoovering and occasionally I'd go mad and blitz the place. We lived on ready meals, and I really did think life was too short for housework. Now I have 3 kids under 5 and work p/t, I've had to get a lot more organised! I love our house, and like it to be a nice place to be, so I do minimal housework each day. Wouldn't have a cleaner- my mum used to have them, as she was disabled, and the problems of finding a reliable one, who actually cleaned well, were neverending! Nothing worse than coming home to a house you expect to be clean and find a pit! And I'd feel awkward and in their way if I was in the house, but wondering what they were up to if not!! then there is that cleaning-up-for-the-cleaner thing! I'm with carmenelectra- I'd rather use the £60 a week for something else- that (to me) is a huge amount of money!

I also like to spend time with the kids, and have dogs to walk etc, so the flipside is I am NEVER well-groomed! I don't really care enough how I look! People who know me don't judge me, and I don't really care what strangers think! Thankfully, I'm usually too busy to even look in a mirror! DH knows I can scrub up ok when required, but on a daily basis who am I trying to impress? We walk cross country every day with the mutts, so walking boots and waterproof trousers are the order of the day- can't remember the last time I wore a skirt in the daytime! In the force 10 gales we have at the moment, it would be insane to waste time blowdrying my hair- it gets pulled back and off we go. Occasionally, like the OP, I see yummy-mummies and wish for a fleeting minute that I looked like that, but deep down I know it's not me! Although I have good friends who I admire for their ability to look amazing and even wear coordinating jewellery and accessories. I'm not saying people shouldn't look good, just that it shouldn't matter that much.

I would love hens !
