Dark coloured doors add value to houses more than light coloured ?

LovelyYellowLabrador · 02/08/2022 22:23

So light green and pink reduce the value of a home

and dark colours so navy/black etc actually add value

do you believe this is true ?

yanbu yes it’s true
yanbu no it’s not

ps I saw this to four in worse house on the street tv show

I wouldn’t think the colours of doors would do much to the value of a house.

demotedreally · 02/08/2022 22:29

I'm choosing a door now, so am interested in the answers to this

Navy is my current choice because I am over anthracite. Which we had in our last house

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 02/08/2022 22:30

The price of a house wouldn't be dependent on a door but if it was , I'd pay a lot more for a solid wooden door than a grey composite door or a white uPVC one.

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 02/08/2022 22:31

It can’t alter the value, it may have some bearing on ‘perceived value’ but in terms of actual house price, the colour of anything shouldn’t have any bearing on it!

RincewindsHat · 02/08/2022 22:32

Ha! Strongly doubt it has much of an impact. I hate dark colours and would not like a house with dark green or navy walls or doors, but I cannot see a vendor knocking any money off the asking price because of my personal colour preferences!

Libre2 · 02/08/2022 22:35

I can’t work out your voting!

bellac11 · 02/08/2022 22:35

It probably adds kerb appeal which makes it more likely to be noticed on rightmove or gives a good feeling when you pull up outside for a viewing but might not actively influence the price per se

I agree with someone above, about a wooden door. We have a horrible white upvc door, I will happily burn it if I ever find someone who will make me a door (no response from various companies Ive contacted)

Libre2 · 02/08/2022 22:35

But in answer as a former estate agent - balls, it makes no difference

BungleandGeorge · 02/08/2022 22:40

Do you know you’ve put yanbu for both of your answer options?
I’m not that keen on dark coloured doors personally and they’d be more difficult to paint over. I’ve seen a few with a light sage green and think it looks fab. It does also depend on the style and age of your property and the colour of the windows etc

I had a new blue door fitted last week and I frikkin love it. It's exactly what I've been dreaming of for years whilst I saved for my first house. I was never a fan of making everything grey. But yes. Go for the blue door!!!!

Oh I fucked that voting part up didn’t I !!!

That’s definitely what they said on that programme

have you seen it before ? It’s called worse house on the street ?

OP posts:
StoneofDestiny · 03/08/2022 00:13

It might affect 'curb appeal' but not the value of the house.

AppleBottomRats · 03/08/2022 00:15

Everyone round here has navy doors which is boring. And I don’t like fake wood colour. But I don’t like white either. I don’t think the colour affects the value though.

The type might - I’d pay less for a house with a poor EPC in which a wooden or PVC door might be a factor. Can’t believe the difference in our hallways since replacing our old wooden door with a composite one!

Doingtheboxerbeat · 03/08/2022 00:34

I had no idea about the value of the property but I noticed that the new builds near me look better with black doors than white. I honestly had no idea this was an actual thing.

Johnnysgirl · 03/08/2022 00:39

The idea that a coat of paint can add value is farcical. Make it more visually appealing, certainly. You can bet the increase in monetary value is negligible.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 03/08/2022 00:41

Hwre’ ideal home say it too
that black door can add 4K!!

So if I paint all the doors in our house it should increase it's value by 36K.

That's great! I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

Isittimef0rbedyet · 03/08/2022 06:35

External or internal doors?

I've had mine (rockdoor) for 7 yrs and it still looks fab.

Well painting all your internal doors back is t going to add any value is it isittimef0rbetyet 😁

GoldPig · 03/08/2022 06:41

I was half way through the thread before I realised you meant front doors not internal! I chose black for mine but I do like a terrace with lots of brightly coloured doors.

HappyHappyHermit · 03/08/2022 06:50

I think I read somewhere that green doors add the most value? When we were choosing I just went for my favourite colour though and it makes me happy whenever I get home to see it. I don't like black or white doors really as it's a bit boring. I think the main thing is to go for a colour that suits the rest of your house.

We're actually buying internal doors at the minute and dark internal doors are way more expensive than white doors so thats why I wasnt sure. If they cost more, the house would be worth more I thought.

PriamFarrl · 03/08/2022 06:52

I think the only difference is how new and solid the door is. A cheap and nasty white door will want replacing so cause the price to be less I guess.

I don’t think I’d pay £4K more for a house because it had a blue door.
