Botox and fillers

Vainandjustrealised · 02/08/2022 08:15

I have sadly started to realise something here

I have had botox since I was 24
Fillers lips ans cheeks
Attend for radiofrequency microneedling
Started profhilo

I had a bit of an AHA moment at the hair dressers last week

I was asking her about the treatments they do in the salon - the hair dresser was the same age as me and oozed self love and confidence. She said she had never done anything like that - without knowing I was a (vain) aesthetics addict she said 'you know what the saddest thing about these procedures'. I said 'what?' She said 'every single woman who attends to get them done here is attractive or above average attractiveness already' - 'I never see anyone who actually needs anything done come here'.

The penny dropped
I started to look on social media and realised woman who get these things done are already beautiful and do not need them

AIBU to realise that this industy is a mega money making business pulling on some womans (including my own) subconsious belief that we are 'not good enough' in some ways that results in us getting treatments we do not need?

Its as it I have just woken up. And it cannot fundamentally make me feel better about myself - because then I am onto the next thing. The next treatment and then the next. When does it stop?

I don't think not attractive but I definitely feel more attractive with Botox to stop me growing and developing the 11 lines where I look permanently pissed off. And I get a subtle lift with my eyebrows which lifts my hooded eyes slightly and because I think I look a bit better / fresher/younger I behave more confidently which is the knock on effect

I do agree though that it is a perpetual cycle and MOST people don't NEED it

inmyslippers · 02/08/2022 10:29

I definitely needed mine. Under eye filler genetically predisposed to dark circles. Brow lift for hooded eyes

Maybe if you’ve always been admired for your looks it’s harder when you start to feel you’re “losing” then?

Whereas if you’re average you can just stay average.

I started to notice fine lines at 30 but I know of people in their late teens getting stuff done which I find amazing. So far (mid 40s) I feel determined not to have anything done.

whumpthereitis · 02/08/2022 10:34

I have some, little tweaks here and there. I don’t think I was flawed and hideous before at all, but I like the effects so will continue quite happily. I absolutely am vain though 🤷🏻‍♀️

Aside from the ethical dilemma etc. is it really true that in ten years time we will start to see health repercussions like we did with the breast implants saga? Or do we already know all there is to know about botox and fillers?

It may well end badly for some later down the line but fillers aren’t new. I first starting getting lip filler in the early 90s, no effects almost 30 years later and I’ve recently started getting them done again.

Does anyone remember the series Ten Years Younger?
Many if not all of the women ended up having surgery of some kind to fix noses, eye bags, jowls, etc.
But during the big reveal, what struck me was that the biggest improvement came about from a good haircut/colour, a little make-up and well-fitting clothes.

PS: I have regular botox!

I think botox and fillers only look 'good' for a few years, and then so much seems to be needed so lips and cheeks start to look very pumped. People with long term botox also start to get odd bumps in injection sites (you won't see this on sm as ring lights obliterate the shadow), their eyes start to look really wrinkly (they aren't, but they look it when next to a glass smooth forehead), and if they've really had too much they seem to develop strange bulgy bits where those facial muscles have taken over from the frozen muscles - often the bridge of the nose seems to get really wrinkly/muscular.

I also find it crazy that people make a huge fuss about vegan and 'cruelty free' make up (when animal testing was banned in Europe 30-odd years ago), but have injectibles, which have to be classified as medical and therefore go through animal testing. So they're actively creating demand for new cosmetic products which have to be tested on animals?

Kate Middleton- did she look better 5 years ago? Who does she ‘see’ as she looks utterly & subtly, fab. That’s the key, subtly.

The super rich are heading towards bio hacks on age, delaying menopause etc, prolonging life.

Makeup can be fucking witchcraft if you really know what you're doing.

I think it looks good in photos which is probably the idea with the selfie obsession
It looks crap in real life

40anxious · 02/08/2022 10:56

Im aged 40s. My era was Jordan & flawless girl groups. I did nearly nearly consider a boob job. Glad i didnt. Grow old gracefully. Exercise, plenty of water, lots of sleep. Embrace yourself for all that you are. I cannot stand to see these silly duck lips, Turkey teethed, fake nail claws, shiny foreheaded, fake boobed women who think they look great! Sadly they all look the same, blow up doll. Its not nice. I hope people wake up before they ruin their natural good looks completely. who are they doing it for??? Men. Be true to yourself 💐

Friffle · 02/08/2022 11:01

I think it can look good to start with but over the time the cumulative effect of all these procedures becomes obvious. And anyone who starts all this at 24 is definitely not going to look completely natural by 44.

I’m not a purist. I think if someone has always wanted a nose job for example then they should go for it. But people who are always chasing the latest youth restoring tweakment are never going to get where they want to be. Just stuck on a hamster wheel.

Agree with the pp who mentioned David Beckham. He’s starting to look a bit strange!

disneylover367 · 02/08/2022 11:04

I think it depends on the person, I know people who have botox, fillers etc and they were happy before and happy after. It is very subtle and they look good. Other people can't seem to stop and it ends up being all consuming.

I think its like anything in life, food, alcohol etc, some people can consume 'normally' for others it becomes an issue.
