Beach towel wankers

Am sure this has been done on here before. Am in France on a lovely campsite. There are a particular group of Brits that go up the pool every morning, put their bloody stuff on about 10 loungers and then periodically pop up maybe twice in the day. I was there for a few hours today & saw people sitting on the floor as these loungers had stuff on them but no people. It’s so fucking ignorant and selfish and it’s giving me the rage. Said people are noisy, playing loud music too and are a bunch of rude inconsiderate wankers.

aibu to complain to reception? Am so tempted to do it anonymously - they do it every day. Today they were also playing really loud rave music by their caravans because everyone on the campsite needs to hear it.

On our last holiday we waited an hour after breakfast finished and then took the loungers and parasol. Each time the people didn't come back until the afternoon.

backinthebox · 01/08/2022 23:48

Just back from holiday and this is a thing. Worst one was the Swedish lady sitting on her own at a large table in the hotel snack bar at lunchtime who would not give up the 4 empty seats she had around her as her husband and sons were out on a boat trip and they would be back sometime later on. So we had to order our drinks and lunch and sit on the floor to eat them - god forbid we sit on her actual chairs for half an hour!

the other weird thing we noticed, and it was mainly Germans doing this, was a tendency at the breakfast buffet to load a plate with all the fruit and take it back to their table to set down in the middle. Annoying to find there was no fruit left for the rest of us, but then even more annoying when they did it with the pastries and croissants too! Then left most of it.

I really don't know why resorts don't ban and enforce it. It only takes slung once a week and people would get the message.

Is it just me that keeps imagining the title said by Jay from The Inbetweeners every time I see the thread?

lot123 · 02/08/2022 06:52

Takes *doing

greenacrylicpaint · 02/08/2022 07:00

at the last camping resort we went to it was strickly enforced.

the attendants were eagle eyed and removed all possessions from loungers if people were not swimming.

balalake · 02/08/2022 07:14

Talk to the reception, not anonymously, preferably in French if you can. Tell them that there are some decent people from the UK and it would not be acceptable here either.

notanothertakeaway · 02/08/2022 07:54

I'm a little sceptical about all these key board warriors who say they wouldn't hesitate to move the towels

IRL, I think most people would be more cautious, fearing repercussions

The resort staff should deal with this. I recall a PP describing a resort where, at set times each day, they played music and all residents had to stand by their sunbed, hto demonstrate it was in use. And all guests helped to remove towels from empty beds

Europeangirl2022 · 02/08/2022 14:25

@notanothertakeaway I’m too scared to do it! Been up again today and surprise surprise they are at it again. Going to write an anonymous note to reception with their pitch numbers 😂

That sounds awful!

lot123 · 02/08/2022 14:45

It does sound a bit 'carry on'. Or hunger games crossed with musical chairs.

I suspect the serial offenders would rock up at the music hours and it would all be in vain.

ShaunaTheSheep · 02/08/2022 15:04

They could use a xylophone for the hi di hi vibes. Reminds me of the ancient site in Athens where the wardens start blowing whistles at closing time and herd visitors to the exit.

j712adrian · 02/08/2022 15:06

Dispose of their towels. When challenged, ask "what towels?"

j712adrian · 02/08/2022 15:06

LesLavandes · 01/08/2022 20:24

I did that once and got completely abused verbally by one of the non-occupants

"They must have already been off when I arrived"

purplecorkheart · 02/08/2022 15:09

Last resort I stayed in they removed items after about 30 mins and your stuff used to get put into a staff hut and you had to collect it from two members of staff. I used to go and sit with the hut and listen to people collecting their stuff. The two staff members would have you crying with laughter with their carry on. They were polite but very witty.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 02/08/2022 15:10

Hate people who have to arrive and dominate any space they are in - like these people

Taking up a huge number of sun beds all day, playing loud music etc. Can’t people just go through life a bit more lightly?

Weightlossanne · 02/08/2022 15:11

Once on holiday in Spain we had a room with a balcony overlooking the pool, staff opened access to the pool area at 8am and it was great watching the same people every day sorting out ‘their’ area. Often the sunbeds weren’t used until late afternoon. One day the access wasn’t opened on time which upset them.

My main bugbear is reserving a sun bed for every child in the party for them to be used for a minute at a time.

theremustonlybeone · 02/08/2022 15:20

I move towels and put them on the grass and move the beds. Have zero tolerance for CF.

TheGraceFace · 02/08/2022 15:23

Vallmo47 · 01/08/2022 21:09

Are you SURE they’re not German?!!!??

Sorry OP, I agree with you.

My thoughts exactly, even going to the trouble of putting on the English accent.

I don’t do sun beds, but often want to remove all towels just to create. The music would drive me mad though. They’re probably getting on everyones’ nerves OP. Put the radio or whatever it is in the pool. My H did it to someone once.

DillonPanthersTexas · 02/08/2022 15:28

If it is obvious that they have not just nipped to get a drink or the toilet and there are no other personal effects (book, suncream, bags etc) I would move them.

midgetastic · 02/08/2022 15:34

Hand into reception as lost property

user50and · 02/08/2022 15:40

We've just got back from Turkey and people were up at 6am reserving sunbeds. SO ANNOYING. Never again...

Celticstranger · 02/08/2022 16:01

If you leave their stuff on the loungers then you are empowering them to continue with their selfish behaviour.

Hana89 · 02/08/2022 16:03

LimboLass · 01/08/2022 22:06

OR move the towells AND the sunbed. Then they cannot ever know which one was theirs.

Ooo! I like this idea a lot! It should hopefully protect you from getting any verbal abuse because as @LimboLass says, if you're not in 'their' spot then they can't know it was you.

chilliesandspices · 02/08/2022 16:08

I'd report to reception. My DH used to go to a French camping site every summer as a child. Twice a day they blew a whistle and everyone had to return to their sun loungers. They removed belongings from any that were unoccupied and varied when it happened so people couldn't plan to come back for 5 minutes.

Hana89 · 02/08/2022 16:09

I've moved peoples things before - and I've had my things moved too!
I once left my stuff on a lounger and went to get an ice cream but the queue was quite long and by the time I got back to my spot (about 15 mins later) a chap had folded my things and taken my seat.
He did offer to give it back when he saw me stood there looking confused with my dripping cone, but I was too awkward (17 y/o emo kid! haha!) to do anything more than shuffle off to try and find another seat! 😂
