Anybody else hate working in general

OK so a quick break down I worked full time since leaving school. I went part time after returning to work from matty leave (years ago) and have no intention of ever going full time again. I have hated every single job I have ever had and dread going/logging on to work every time I wake up in the morning because I know what it means, it means going to have to work and will be stuck working for hours. I count down all week till Friday and clock watch all day until I'm finished, get a nice happy buzz feeling Friday when I'm done but by Sunday night the dread is kicking in again.

I'm married with 2 teenagers and have a mortgage, I can't afford not to work as need to help pay the mortgage and bills. The one thing I would hate more than working would be not having money to do anything or have to start really counting the penny's ect. My husband earns enough to pay the mortgage and bills but we would be very tight for cash after that and would be skimping to get by, so not working is not an option for me.

I know some people say you just need to find a job you enjoy. Ive recently changed jobs, thinking this may help so I have changed to some thing I enjoy more, its a good job with decent pay, Monday to Friday and good benefits... but still I hate working. I know I should be thankful that I've managed to get a good job and I could be doing alot worst job's ( I tell myself this aswell to get through the day) but I still hate it. Its not my colleagues, im working from home so its not the office environment, only thing wrong with the new job is not being able to get clear help or advice when stuck. But apart from that it isn't too hard... I just hate working for a living in general 😒

I know some people say they love there jobs. But does anyone actually love there job ? Or working in general ?

Completely agree.

Work is not pointless. There is a reason why almost every able bodied person has to do it. Anybody who thinks the default is a life of freedom to do exactly what they want is supremely entitled.

Exactly. It's not pointless. You do some form of work. You get paid. It enables you to sustain yourself. That may not be enjoyable, but it's not pointless.

If, understandably, you don't like being limited by other people setting your hours and free time, and you want the autonomy of managing your own schedule and time off, you can go self employed.

However people need to provide themselves with a roof over their heads, heat and food. Therefore work in some form is necessary.

I like my job, the people I work with are awesome - but I'm counting down the years (2 + 1 week) until I can retire!!! I started working 3 weeks after my 16th birthday, no children so no maternity leave, 3 months off after 1st redundancy and almost 4 years of various temp jobs after 2nd redundancy (that one was voluntary) - I'm over it!!! Thankfully I only work part-time at the moment, but even that is too much.

I think your problem is assuming people who love their job are a myth and that, for almost everyone, working is something to be painfully endured until pension age.

It’s not the case, and had you not subscribed to that way of thinking, you may have found a place in working life that gave you a lot of satisfaction and joy, instead of wasting your life sounding miserable most week days.

You say, for example, you love walking and training your dog. My friend worked in accountancy and absolutely despised it for years. She trained as a dog trainer, animal behaviourist and animal therapist and now she owns her own successful business - and she loves it.

An earlier PP said they think people who hate working are lazy. I don’t think that’s true necessarily, but I think there is some laziness at play for not trying to make working life better and more enjoyable (when you have the means, of course, and it sounds like you do).

Me! I’m an accountant and while I’m good at my job - I absolutely hate it. I am looking at a career change but no idea what to but I’m only 26 so can’t continue the Sunday Blues for the next 40+ years!

Tiggy321 · 01/08/2022 09:17

That sounds tough. I think you need to find something you really like doing.... I love my job- vastly underpaid but it makes me laugh every day and feel I am making a difference (special Ed teacher assistant). Of course there are days which are terrible and I am tired, house is a tip etc but ultimately I love it!

I've had 3careers and now have a job. The first was hospitality, I loved it until I started a family then it didn't work. The second was a childcare business, I loved it for about 5 years then changes to childcare made it less enjoyable. The last was in childrens services. I loved it then there was a restructure job changed and I didn't like it, went for promotion and hated it. After may leave I became a sahm loved it. I now work part time and n a job I enjoy but know I would hate it if I did it full time. If I ever decide to increase my hours I think il take a second job rather than go full time

@JosephineGH
No it definitely isn't a high paying profession, do you think everyone who works part time is highly paid?!

I have managed by having a dh in full time employment and we have both made sacrifices and altered our lifestyle accordingly. We have 3 dcs so couldn't afford full time childcare anyway.
My dh is happy for me to remain part time for as long as I wish/we can afford it .
