Is this good proce for kitchen?..

i need a reality check. I want to put in a new kitchen, current one is quite small, around 6 square meters floor space. I purchased all the units and appliances already and got a separate quote for fitting it all…

£12k!

is this a good price? Seems so high, that is 2.5 times more what i was quoted by kitchen company should i have gone with their fitters. Fitting works out way more than what i paid for units and appliances together😳

So, aibu to think this is way too much money?

Who did you get the quote from? Can anyone recommend you a carpenter to quote?

TilesAndPoop · 30/07/2022 18:11

I got a quote from a company as they do all sorts of building work and installations and are good. I was hoping that meant i don’t have to worry about having to organise other trades (gas, electrics) that will be needed.

I just paid a kitchen fitter £1800 to fit my kitchen. The provider of the kitchen was charging £5k to fit.

helpamom · 30/07/2022 19:29

12k just to install?? That's way too much. Shouldn't cost more than 2k

rosesinmygarden · 30/07/2022 19:31

What's the quote for exactly?

Just kitchen fitting? Or lighting, electrics, flooring, gas, decoration, plumbing?

rosesinmygarden · 30/07/2022 19:33

Good carpenters charge upwards of £200 per man day.

Is the quote labour only? Is it VAT inclusive?

confusedlots · 30/07/2022 19:38

No that definitely doesn't sound right!

TilesAndPoop · 30/07/2022 20:02

The quote includes all the usual stuff that’s needed when you rip out old kitchen and put a new one, electrics, fixing a ceiling as we had a leak and had to take plaster down so there is a hole. Rerouting gas to new location, tiling of walls and floor. Vat inclusive.
Installation is double of what i already paid for units and appliances, how can that be right.

OP posts:
TilesAndPoop · 30/07/2022 20:03

Btw, i would be supplying tiles and materials so that is labour only by the looks of it.

Is your kitchen a weird shape?

TilesAndPoop · 30/07/2022 20:04

2 weeks installation at £200 per day would be £2k, this is 1.2k per day😳

OP posts:
TilesAndPoop · 30/07/2022 20:05

Not a weid shape at all, rectangle, one tall unit door will need cutting to shape to accommodate slope where the stairs go up

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 30/07/2022 20:06

Absolute bollocks.

Our kitchen is medium size I would say. Bigger than yours.

We bought the units for 3k, worktops, upstand and oven splashback, all quartz, £2300 supplied and fitted.

Kitchen fitter £1800.

They're taking the piss.

TilesAndPoop · 30/07/2022 20:04

2 weeks installation at £200 per day would be £2k, this is 1.2k per day😳

No good fitter would take 2 weeks to fit a kitchen.

TilesAndPoop · 30/07/2022 20:10

Similar to this (from Pinterest), on the right hand side where tall units are we have a slope as there’s stairs going up

Is this good proce for kitchen?..
OP posts:
Waystation · 30/07/2022 20:11

That’s not anywhere near reasonable - I have a large kitchen, replaced it last year units and appliances 25k - two excellent fitters for 6 days total cost for fitting 3k.

rosesinmygarden · 30/07/2022 20:26

It does seem high. Get some other quotes and then you can compare.

TilesAndPoop · 31/07/2022 10:08

Bumping this up for more opinions. I have now declined the quote and will be looking for someone else to do the job.

MumW · 31/07/2022 10:16

We've just had a quote of 20k 😲. In the process of getting others.
First came in at 8k but has now said he's not taking new business until next year.
We're hoping to find someone for less than 10k and have been asking around for personal recommendations.

TilesAndPoop · 31/07/2022 10:21

@MumW £20k for installation or all kitchen refurb, aka units, appliances, fitting? Is your kitchen huge?

OP posts:
Poppyblush · 31/07/2022 10:57

They probably don’t want the job hence quoting a really stupid price.

Paintsplat · 31/07/2022 11:36

It is a high quote but your follow up posts sound like there's a lot more work than just fitting - electrics, ceiling, plastering, fitting a floor, rerouting gas, tiling?

We paid around 14k last year, around 2k of that was appliances and the units around 3k. The expensive parts were the plastering, a new door, electrics etc + paying labour for 2 or 3 people a day for 8 days

theoldtrout01876 · 31/07/2022 14:11

I am in the middle of my kitchen renovation, same deal, electrics need fixing, plumbing updated, new ceiling and floor and new cabinets. My kitchen is about 15 sq meters and its costing me close to 60 grand. Im horrified. This is with my husband making and installing the cabinets (hes a cabinet maker). We also took on a lot of the work ourselves to save the cost of a general contractor.
Hated the demo part that much that I just hired a contractor to do my bathroom. Its 6 sq meters. Thats also being ripped out to the studs an thats 20 grand with me supplying tiles light fixtures etc.
I dont know about there but all trades here have gotten sooooo expensive, the electrical for my kitchen alone was 14 grand, its 4 grand to tile it, its square and empty so no fancy cutting involved. I so wish one of my kids had taken up plumbing or electrical

CocoPlum · 31/07/2022 14:47

Mine has just been done - smaller than yours by a bit - I think around £8-10k. That was for stripping out the old kitchen, bashing out part of a built in cupboard and making good, all electrics, floor provided and fitted, glass splashbacks provided and fitted, various little fixes during the process (ie changing the washing machine pipe), painting, skip hire ...

Oh and for the person who says it shouldn't take 2 weeks to fit a kitchen 😂I wish. The actual putting in of units didn't take very long but with everything else, I was kitchen-free for almost 3 weeks, then it wasn't finished for another 3. This is fairly standard when you're waiting for different tradesmen to be free!

skippy67 · 31/07/2022 14:48

I paid £10k for installation last year. The actual fitting part of the quote was £2k. The rest of the quote was for rip out of old kitchen, plastering, electrics, including upgrading the consumer unit, shut off of gas, painting, flooring installing induction hob, changing radiators, all plumbing. The whole job took 2 weeks.
