i need a reality check. I want to put in a new kitchen, current one is quite small, around 6 square meters floor space. I purchased all the units and appliances already and got a separate quote for fitting it all…

£12k!

is this a good price? Seems so high, that is 2.5 times more what i was quoted by kitchen company should i have gone with their fitters. Fitting works out way more than what i paid for units and appliances together😳

So, aibu to think this is way too much money?

@CocoPlum I am honestly prepared to do tiling myself and hire a skip and take it all apart if these are the prices.
Kitchen retailer quoted £4.5k for all the works, how come someone else thinks it’s £12k! I get trades can quote whatever they like but still..

Good God!

I'm so glad we just fitted our own. We couldn't have done once upon a time but as we've done up houses, we've asked tradesmen to teach us and saved an absolute fortune. We've recently ripped out a bathroom and kitchen to brickwork, replaced everything (including moving the plumbing for the toilet/sinks and putting in new floorboards and a stud wall) and have spent 7k all in on both rooms.

Only thing we don't touch is electrics.

It's so expensive otherwise.

Good to get all the opinions, i have someone else coming round to have a look and quote and hope it will be more in line with reality. Fingers crossed.

@MumW £20k for installation or all kitchen refurb, aka units, appliances, fitting? Is your kitchen huge?

@TilesAndPoop , just installation, units and appliances another 10-11k.
Kitchen is approx 2.5 x 6.5m

The 20k quote included painting but the 8k didn't- we can do that ourselves.
First builder reckoned 5 weeks, but everyone else we've spoken to thinks around 2 weeks is more like it.
