Grim gym changing room behaviour

Came out of pool this morning to get my stuff for my shower and a woman was cutting her toenails on the bench where people put their stuff. She had a towel down but still 🤮 Am I right that this is completely grim? She also had her arse stuck out right in front of the locker I was trying to get to and made no move whatsoever to let me through when it was clear I was trying to get to my locker.

A woman was grating her feet in our changing room once. That was grim. Several of them sit on benches while wearing no knickers. Since we have got cleaning spray in there now due to Covid I just wipe surfaces down before I put anything of mine on them. A couple of women once decided to phone the dad of one of them in his care home. They were talking really loudly on speaker. Or so I thought. Until I glanced in the mirror and saw their screen with the face of an elderly man staring out of it, as they were face timing!

Spanielsarepainless · 29/07/2022 18:04

I was on a,train to London when the woman next to me started filing her nails. It was only after she had finished that she noticed most of the filings had gone all over her black trousers and black cashmere jersey (as well as the table we were sharing). How we laughed...

Brefugee · 29/07/2022 18:06

At the gym today some random woman had left all her bags and stuff strewn all over the place while she went to dry her hair, leaving very little room for the rest of us.

in my gym it would have been pushed onto the floor - they have zero patience with CFs

swimlyn · 29/07/2022 18:09

I'd have used her arse crack to hold the locker door open while I was getting my stuff out. 😁

Keep in mind washing, drying and brushing hair will cause more of this to shed everywhere and drying ourselves off with a towels after a shower will cause dead skin cells to shed.

Yes, but that's kind of essential showering activity. Cutting toenails is not.

But what's the point of telling us, we can't do anything about it. Just tell a member of staff if the toenails bother you. As for asking ppl to move, nothing new there. People are in the way if each other all the time.

But then by extension... What's the point of any thread on Mumsnet?

Sometimes it's helpful to share how we feel about life's little issues in a safe space, and see if other people have encountered something similar.

If everything in the world could be sorted out by a brisk word in a bathroom, there'd be very few threads on here. The Relationships topic would be practically silent!

Sexnotgender · 29/07/2022 20:08

Could be worse. I’ve seen some bloke cutting his toenails in a restaurant.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 29/07/2022 20:10

ew that is gross.

I stopped going to one gym because a particular woman who was ALWAYS there. She use to spread her stuff over the full length of one bench (there were only 3) and when she changed she’d shower then put on a thong on with a panty liner (that didn’t even fit the thong), nothing else, and would spend about 20 minutes bent over rifling through her stuff doing god knows what. Thought it was absolutely grim and attention seeking

There was a man when I was on a spa day once, he was walking around with a raging knob on. Not trying to hide it at all. Went from the jacuzzi to the steam room with his boner just protruding everywhere!

scottishthistle77 · 29/07/2022 21:15

I remember years ago in the gym's changing room at my university, a girl casually stripping off, lifting one leg up on to the bench, inserting a tampon, throwing a used sanitary towel in the bin and putting on her swimming costume. All while chatting with her 2 friends as if this was a completely normal thing to do in the middle of a fairly busy communal changing room.

StarlightLady · 30/07/2022 08:00

I don’t have a muff, and if l did sport one, I certainly wouldn’t dry my bush with a hairdryer. Yes, it is an unusual thing to do, but unlike cutting toenails etc, l don’t see where you use a hairdryer causes harm to others.

It’s the relentless vapidity that kills you.

pictish · 30/07/2022 12:15

Couldn’t give a toss about someone cutting their toenails on a towel, no.

balalake · 30/07/2022 12:16

The toenails, the nail filing, just wrong. Spreading out your clothes when others are there, inconsiderate. However, changing a tampon providing the used one is disposed of correctly should be treated as normal.

But surely you do that in the loo, in private?!

Changing a tampon in the shared, common area of a changing room, in front of other women is "normal"?!? I strongly disagree! I would never even think of changing a tampon in front of anyone, let alone strangers - I'd prefer to see toenail clipping than someone removing a bloodied tampon from their vagina, somehow disposing of it (and if they are in a common area, there won't be a sanitary waste bin like there is in a toilet cubicle) and inserting a new one. I genuinely think that 'Tampon Changing' should be a private and exclusively solo pursuit!

CounsellorTroi · 30/07/2022 13:39

I remember on a previous thread on the same subject someone said they’d seen someone applying cream to their nether regions. 🤮

lap90 · 30/07/2022 14:55

My gym deffo needs signs up re shaving, cutting nails etc

It's not unusual to find razors in the shower cubicles. I've seen people shaving, someone applying hair removal cream, sanitary towel wrapper left on the table when there are bins everywhere, a nappy on the table in the lounge where people eat and drink...

Woodsie54 · 30/07/2022 15:04

We have a local Holiday that permits people to use the pool. Unfortunately due to bad behaviour of the persons using the pool and changing areas I will certainly not be going back. Screaming shouting unsupervised children showers left running general cleanliness of the place bins overflowing toliets not clean.

Amazes me how any sane person would think it civilised to carry out such a private activity, in public. I am always worried of a used sanitary towel dropping out my knickers in a public loo, for next cubicle to see on the floor!

Naughtyperson972 · 30/07/2022 15:18

Men shaving in the jacuzzi at my old gym. It became so bad they had to put signs up specifically asking people not to do it.

So cutting toenails and filing nails in a public space is wrong, but changing a tampon in front of other people is "normal"?!

NO. IT. IS. NOT!!!

No. This shouldn’t be treated as bloody normal. Have some respect for other people and don’t change your used sanitary protection in front of other people. Jesus Christ 🙄
