What did you find when you moved house that you would rather not have found?

Was thinking back to when we last moved.

The loo in the bathroom wouldn't flush, and when we went up in the loft we found a dead rat. It looked as though it had been there for some time.
The worst by far though was what we found at the bottom of the garden. Dh was digging and came across a heavy duty green plastic bag. When he opened it the smell was awful. Inside were the bodies of two cats!
Who in their right mind buries an animal in a plastic bag?
So what did you find when you moved into your home?

A loft full of porn magazines

RiojaRose · 27/07/2022 01:00

A flea-infested carpet!

newtb · 27/07/2022 01:06

Woody rating beetles (capricornes) in the roof timbers - or rather the electrician did.

DarkDarkNight · 27/07/2022 01:31

Fleas 🤮

ohfook · 27/07/2022 01:41

My dh has buried our dead animals not in plastic bags but in plastic boxes. Apparently it's to stop the dog digging the bones back up. As it's not my area of responsibility I don't voice an opinion on it but every now and then think of a gross little hamster corpse festering away in a Tupperware box in the garden.

Isaidno22 · 27/07/2022 01:45

Rat skeleton in the outhouse roof space.

Ihaveroyallyscrewedup · 27/07/2022 01:56

A small suitcase in the loft filled with sex toys

Nat6999 · 27/07/2022 02:11

That the person I had exchanged with hadn't capped off the connection for the dishwasher drain on the trap under the sink, I nearly flooded the kitchen.

bellsbuss · 27/07/2022 02:21

A dirty nappy in the main bathroom Envy

CanadianJohn · 27/07/2022 02:25

In this house, fleas. We had to have the entire house fumigated.

In the previous house, a used sanitary napkin stuffed behind the toilet.

jaundicedoutlook · 27/07/2022 02:28

The grimmest, rankest and most depraved oven I have ever seen. Absolutely caked in filth and years of detritus. We had a professional oven cleaner round and they couldn’t make much impression on it. I wouldn’t mind, but the people we’d bought the house from were both GPs - you’d have thought they’d have had a more enlightened view of hygiene…!

Tromboleese · 27/07/2022 02:31

Carpet beetles.

Crap plaster under painted anaglypta wallpaper.

even worse crumbling plaster in the kitchen. Whole row of cupboards fell off the wall taking the plaster with it.

A purple stocking (main bedroom)
Sky type box set to all Adult XXX channels
Fleas( Entire House)
Huge Satellite disc outside
Packet of Mates condoms with one left expiry March 1985(loft)
Black Mould ( every room)
Dodgy men banging on the door at 3 in the morning for a while until they realised that "Ange" didn't live there any more.

NorthernLights5 · 27/07/2022 02:36

I don't think this qualifies but I'm gonna post it anyway! It wasn't our house but a newly purchased care home by the company I used to work for. There were 4 floors but the 4th floor was like attic rooms. There was quite a big suitcase which contained photos. Really fascinating. We came across a fair few family photos from the Victorian era (different families) where most photos had a deceased family member.

You can tell they were dead because photos used to take some time to take so everyone had to stay still during it. People would naturally move a little so they would be a little blurry whereas the deceased would be perfectly still. Some clearly had that device around their neck which would have had a pole behind it to keep them propped up.

LetsGoRound · 27/07/2022 03:16

A box of dvds.
Featuring the previous owners, who were in their eighties, naked and getting into er, positions that I wouldn't be able to get into at half that age.
I've never been able to see my bedroom in the same way.

Fullofpudding · 27/07/2022 04:07

Used tampons in the loft!
Pants full of shit stuffed behind the radiator.
Floorboards completely soaked in piss in the lounge Envy

Turnthatoff · 27/07/2022 04:23

The only telephone outlet in the front bedroom! This was back in the day of course. I loved that house. Little weatherboard single fronted workers cottage. 💕 Paid AUD$220K. Last sold for over 1M. I digress.

NanaNelly · 27/07/2022 05:03

All of the horrible things mentioned like urine and poo and the dirty oven. Didn’t you smell anything or see anything untoward when viewing the property?

SkiingIsHeaven · 27/07/2022 08:16

The kitchen units were ingrained with nicotine. Every time the room was steamy ie boiling food or using the kettle, drips of yellow nicotine dropped off the wall units onto the worktops. Absolutely revolting.

Inmyonesie · 27/07/2022 08:20

Our builder put his put through the woodworm infested kitchen diner floor. Had to replace the whole thing.

reenon · 27/07/2022 08:30

An enema.

Used 🤮

easyday · 27/07/2022 08:35

Bought a flip- I knew it was in pretty bad shape. Elderly couple living there and they had a skeleton kitchen - a stove, sink one wall of cupboards from the 50s. Hoping they'd leave it as might have sold it but they'd taken it - wall totally black with mold behind. Took up the buckling laminate floor and it was wet with dog pee underneath.
Not unusual - I've seen a few probate properties in neglected state but this had people living in it.

Ponks · 27/07/2022 08:36

Food left on baking trays in the oven.

Pants left in the washing machine.

Basically a huge amount of rubbish, we had to get a skip.

8misskitty8 · 27/07/2022 08:51

Shit in and on the toilet,
Downstairs toilet had carpet that was soaked with piss.
Kitchen had not been cleaned since it was installed a few years before we bought, thick grease on top of cupboards.
Cooker and oven thick with grime.
Integrated fridge has black mould inside.
Thick layer of cat fur like a bit of carpet behind every radiator.

KohlaParasaurus · 27/07/2022 08:57

No nasty surprises in the house, but when I was dealing with the garden I discovered that the previous owners had used old sheets, duvet covers and curtains as weed suppressing fabric. Ingeniously cheapskate, but a pain in the neck to rip out.
