What did you find when you moved house that you would rather not have found?

Was thinking back to when we last moved.

The loo in the bathroom wouldn't flush, and when we went up in the loft we found a dead rat. It looked as though it had been there for some time.
The worst by far though was what we found at the bottom of the garden. Dh was digging and came across a heavy duty green plastic bag. When he opened it the smell was awful. Inside were the bodies of two cats!
Who in their right mind buries an animal in a plastic bag?
So what did you find when you moved into your home?

Bamboo. It grew, rampantly, everywhere. We dug it up, we poisoned it, the farmer next door harrowed it….all that just about kept it out of the house.

The live electric cable behind the (non electric) shower controls

Woodworm. Didnt realise until my foot went through the floor in the kitchen. All the floorboards and joists downstairs had to be replaced, as well as skirting boards and door frames.

A friend arrived at his house on completion day to find the vendor still living there. He was an older man who hadn’t realised that he actually had to be out once they’d exchanged (and he couldn’t leave his furniture there).

I've heard before of people not realising they had to be out upon completion but how can anyone not know?

I'm planning to move soon, this thread has put me right off! 😂

We went to vote just after we'd bought the house and the official looked at our address on the polling cards and said, 'Oh, the haunted house?'.

Anything weird happened since?

I live in a converted church, I literally have bats in my belfry. Beautiful to watch but fuck they're noisy.

My dining room had water coming from under the skirting boards when it rained. I removed the skirting board to find stuffed behind it newspaper dated from about 2 months from when I exchanged.

Old wooden beer crate full of homemade phosphorus bombs in the air raid shelter. Called the police who put tape around it. Then the Army turned up, drank a gallon of tea, and took it away.

Mice.

Lots of mice.

A gas leak (which also then led us to discover some dodgy old gas pipes that needed replacing). This was followed by discovering that there was a serious water leak that occured when running the bath which flooded through a light fitting and left a lovely stain on the ceiling below.

@AssumingDirectControl
Not a sausage. I think I’m disappointed about that. But perhaps not.
