To find it funny when DH is furious?

to find it funny when DH is furious?

I don’t know what it is, but the crosser he gets the more it makes me laugh.
Take yesterday: DH and I went to the garden centre and DD2 (not a child - home from uni) stayed at home and was given strict instructions to supervise the unruly vandal that is our 18 month old (not) working cocker spaniel, in particular to make sure he didn’t destroy the garden.

When we got home I went up the garden (long and narrow) to pick some lettuce and carrots. I immediately saw a big hole, really big, in the middle of the lawn. I quietly returned to the kitchen and busied myself scraping the carrots. I watched through the window as DH went up the garden and swerved right as he saw the hole. I called DD and said “DD unruly dog has dug a huge hole and Dad has just seen it, he’s going to be furious”. She came and peered out of the window before rushing upstairs to her bedroom.

DH stormed in cursing the dog and DD, demanded she come downstairs to inspect the damage.
She came down, swearing she had been watching the dog, I carried on scraping carrots, bent double over the sink, my shoulders shaking, so he went back up the garden to have a rant at the neighbour who is a sympathetic sort. DD and I collapsed laughing, we were crying with laughter, I don’t know why I find it so funny when he’s angry but I do, and so does DD.

sounds like you all like to wind him up and let him go.

it must be unpleasant for others in your house to disrespect you so much

Oh my goodness, self righteous garden man stomping up the garden, wanna blame a puppy - you gotta laugh, unless you are scared. Young dogs fucking dig,
DD was not vigilant enough, young people aren't. Tell him not to be a big ole baby.

It could be something of a defence mechanism... what is his normal demeanour and personality like? Does he often get angry or overreact?

I think my mum might do this a little, thinking about it. Possibly I think relating to family dynamics- him being the breadwinner and with control over her in the traditional sort of sense. It's a nervous thing maybe. Or in the sense of being made to feel worthless/ unimportant, so his loss of control is almost funny?? I don't know, but our reactions to things are complicated and there is often a bigger picture.

Christ some folk on here fall over themselves to make everything the man's fault.

lailamaria · 24/07/2022 20:11

i mean what did he want you to do, punish your adult daughter or what? i can't imagine getting that mad over a hole in the garden i would have probably laughed too tbh

Thefriendlymoth · 24/07/2022 20:12

I think this sounds a bit mean spirited! He obviously cares about his garden and had specifically asked your daughter to watch out to prevent this, which she presumably agreed to. Furious might be a bit of an overreaction but if I was upset about something and the other people there thought it was hysterical I’d quickly get there. I understand sometimes you just get the giggles but I think you both need to apologise to him.

MichelleScarn · 24/07/2022 20:13

I know @traintraveller dog destroyed garden due to adult dc being lax, and because the dh is annoyed at this despite op and adult dc doubled over in hilarity at his upset, he's of course clearly abusive... 😐

JePréfèreLesChiens · 24/07/2022 20:16

Dogs like digging. He shouldn’t have a dog if he wants a perfect lawn. My dad was like this, we couldn’t play on the grass as we ruined his lawn. We laughed at what a dick head he was.

SouperNoodle · 24/07/2022 20:18

I find it utterly hilarious when my DH is angry (which isn't very often).
He's such a laid back person that anger just doesn't suit him. He sort of shouts through gritted teeth which makes him sound muffled and slams his fist onto thin air (like he's banging it on a table but there's actually nothing there) and it's just looks so stupid that I find it the funniest thing.

Not that he'd ever know. I keep a poker face but giggle internally 😂
Nothing ever gets resolved when either of us is cross so I just don't say anything, wait until he's calmed down and then we sit down and talk it out calmly and cuddle

M340 · 24/07/2022 20:25

Vile.

dapsnotplimsolls · 24/07/2022 20:25

You and your daughter are both arseholes.

JePréfèreLesChiens · 24/07/2022 20:37

I’m shocked so many people think OP is so terrible.

The dog has done what dogs do and dug a hole. He hasn’t eaten the family rabbit, he’s just dug a hole!

Husband is now cursing the dog, has taken daughter out to survey the hole and has now gone to moan about it it his sympathetic neighbour. It’s funny. It’s a lawn and he’s completely over reacting.

CallmeSybil · 24/07/2022 20:57

Glad some people have a sense of humour!
It's the Basil Fawlty factor - I just find it hilarious when people lose their shit. Hence my name change.
Mind as DH pointed out, I'd have been pretty cross if the dog had destroyed my pots. He's so naughty and just nips off flower heads as he goes by.

CallmeSybil · 24/07/2022 20:59

Come by and have a Wineand a Grin anytime @JePréfèreLesChiens

iklboo · 24/07/2022 21:00

This has 'did ye, aye' written all over it.

CallmeSybil · 24/07/2022 21:01

And @SouperNoodle

Once when DH was raging about something he hurled his mug over the hedge across the road. I heard it bounce and retrieved it. No idea what sort of extra durable porcelain they are made of but we still have the offending mug and occasionally laugh at the memory.

bg21 · 24/07/2022 21:01

HE needs to LTB

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/07/2022 21:04

Laughter is a stress response so laughing when someone is very angry is normal.

Actually finding it funny that DH is upset and laughing with DD about it is less understandable.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 24/07/2022 21:26

It's not remotely funny.

Herejustforthisone · 24/07/2022 21:29

Wow. Poor guy. You’re a pair of dicks to him

roarfeckingroarr · 24/07/2022 21:39

He's angry about something silly so YANBU

Laughing at him if he was upset because someone was unwell / he lost his job - not ok.

I would have laughed in this situation. I often laugh at silly daddy getting stressed about nothing.

roarfeckingroarr · 24/07/2022 21:45

Seriously it's a hole in the lawn. Why does it matter? If he wasn't so highly strung over little things they probably wouldn't laugh at his ire.

Bonjovispjs · 24/07/2022 21:50

We all love a good laugh, but what a strange thing to find hilarious🤔
