Sorry I know not aibu but I’m worried and I need advice from people who’ve seen this…
please check out photos, 3 yo ds been poorly 2 days and has mild fever, not eating well. He has come out in this incredibly itchy rash, he is COVERED in it. It just doesn’t look like the pics of chicken pox on Google. Should I ring 101?
thank you sorry aibu gang x

My son has just recovered from scarlet fever. If the rash all joins up, is quite rough to the touch, he has fever, or strawberry tongue- call 111 or out of hours Gp to get antibiotics.

I don't think it looks like chicken pox or measles but I'm not an expert. Maybe a viral infection?

You've done the glass test I assume, although they don't look that red from the photos.

Neeko · 23/07/2022 18:47

Has he been in and out a paddling pool by any chance? It looks quite like hot tub folliclitus (not sure on spelling). Something to do with bacteria in the water if the paddling pool has been filled for a couple of days.
Oats in a sock in a tepid bath might ease the itching or maybe some antihistamine.

Yarnasaurus · 23/07/2022 18:51

It's not very clear in the pictures but it's not uncommon to get hives/urticaria with a virus. Piriton should stop the itching and give some relief.

WishingWell5 · 23/07/2022 18:52

I was also going to say hives

Soubriquet · 23/07/2022 18:53

Not pox. That looks like a heat rash, allergic rash or some other viral rash

Jewel1968 · 23/07/2022 18:55

My youngest had what we thought was chicken pox a couple of years ago at the same time his Dad and classmate had covid. I later discovered that in kids covid can manifest with a rash. Worth a test maybe?

ofwarren · 23/07/2022 18:56

Not measles or chicken pox.
Looks like a viral rash to me.

TamSamLam · 23/07/2022 18:58

I can't see clearly but it looks more like heat rash or insect bites to me. I'd make sure he has an appropriate number of layers on if he's currently wrapped up with the fever. And get some antihistamine in him.

Not sure how useful 111 would be for a rash, but I might drag him to a pharmacy or urgent care if there's one open locally and I was worried.

LittleMG · 23/07/2022 19:00

Sorry about the bad photos I can see it
clearly but when photoed it doesn’t show! Looks like lots of gnat bites and pin pricks, not like your usual red chicken pox spots, but he’s itching LIKE MAD I’ve put calamine on it.

LittleMG · 23/07/2022 19:01

He’s not been in a hot tub or anything has been in nursery though. He seems bright so I’m leaving it for the moment but I think
ill ring 111 if he goes downhill.
thank you replies really appreciated x

Piriton will be much better at reducing the itching than calamine (which I've always found a bit rubbish tbh).

ofwarren · 23/07/2022 19:05

Get him some piriton. They sell it at supermarkets.

RedCarsGoFaster · 23/07/2022 19:08

Definitely looks a lot like urticaria - have you got antihistamines for him? Pop him in a cool bath if he'll accept it or a cool shower. Then slather on more calamine in the meantime.

I had a rash with covid that looked like hives. It was actually my only symptom.

SpiderVersed · 23/07/2022 19:11

Piriton and an oat bath, OP. They don’t look
like chicken pox (yet?) as those have a sort of blister on them.

steff13 · 23/07/2022 19:13

I was very itchy, too. Like, couldn't sleep for three days itchy.

TamSamLam · 23/07/2022 19:14

If he's trying to scratch give him an ice cube (in kitchen paper) to rub on instead. Mostly placebo, but a bit of relief/distraction/doing can work wonders with a toddler. Obviously not a substitute for any actual treatment.

Elevenerifebruv · 23/07/2022 19:30

Looks like classic urticaria to me.

WishingWell5 · 23/07/2022 19:34

I had hives that looked just like that all over my body, the itching was immense. Antihistamine is the only thing that relieves it. Definitely give piriton - the sooner you give it the better.

WishingWell5 · 23/07/2022 19:35

Ps with measles a rash is one of the last symptoms to occur, so if anyone is looking for a rash to confirm measles they shouldn't because by that point the patient would be in a very bad state.

SpindleInTheWind · 23/07/2022 19:40

Get him to to a pharmacist for whetever urticaria treatment they'll load him up on.

And keep an eye on his lips and inside his mouth.

Sorry, it's such a bummer. But there are good anti-histamines that can be taken in combination at paediatric doses.

WishingWell5 · 23/07/2022 19:48

Sorry ignore me... no sleep, the glass comment threw me.. I obviously don't mean measles!!! Blush

LittleMG · 23/07/2022 19:55

I agree it looks more like hives I’ve just found some puriton but he wouldn’t take it
and ended up choking and sicking it up 😞
