Sorry I know not aibu but I’m worried and I need advice from people who’ve seen this…
please check out photos, 3 yo ds been poorly 2 days and has mild fever, not eating well. He has come out in this incredibly itchy rash, he is COVERED in it. It just doesn’t look like the pics of chicken pox on Google. Should I ring 101?
thank you sorry aibu gang x

Looks like hives to me. One of mine had the measles rash post mmr and it is quite distinctive- she looked a total mess. Pox seems to appear so quickly so you’d know if it was that.

Hives / allergy / heat rash looks like to me!

Kerrrmieee · 23/07/2022 20:01

Silly question maybe, but was it liquid piriton you gave him?

chesirecat99 · 23/07/2022 20:07

I agree with PPs that it looks like urticaria (hives). Probably acute infectious urticaria, hives caused by an infection (well, his immune response to an infection to be more accurate), it's the most common cause in little ones, or an allergy. Antihistamines are the only thing that will really relieve the itching.

I would head to a pharmacy, show the pharmacist the photos for advice and get him some antihistamines.

Yes it was liquid puriton

DS has this at the moment too. Been really snotty, temperature, sore throat and this rash all over. Going down at the end of day 2 now, hopefully better tomorrow. I'm pretty sure it's just a viral thing. He has had hives following viruses a couple of times although usually the more classic looking hives with the white patches.

saltwaterandsuncream · 23/07/2022 21:04

Has he been near stinging nettles?

autienotnaughty · 23/07/2022 21:37

It looks like Hives or heat rash.

Gonnabegrandma · 23/07/2022 21:57

I’ve had a rash almost identical to this !! Had it for 7 weeks !! Tried all sort of tablets and creams nothing helped . I then caught covid and had to have antivirals with days it vanished !!! Still no o idea what it was or what caused it

That’s what it looks like.

He’s asleep now but because of the puriton incident I now can’t get calpol in him for love no money. No amount of promises of paw patrol merch can sway him. Managed to get a bit in him mixed with juice but not enough. I don’t think it’s chicken pox like posters have said it’s like hives looks like nettle rash. Calamine lotion helped but he’s scratching again now. He’s literally covered. Temp is 37.4 not too bad now. Thanks so much for the replies I do worry about him x

My daughter had a rash like that (looked like hives, only really came out at night) - was a viral infection. Cleared in a few days.

DappledThings · 24/07/2022 09:50

Update from me, 3 days after that rash appeared he has seen GP, developed the strawberry tongue and been confirmed as scarlet fever.

Axahooxa · 24/07/2022 22:06

@DappledThings my son has recovered from scarlet fever after a week of antibiotics, but was actually pretty well after day 4 of the virus. Still has the sandpaper leftover rash but all well! I hope your little boy is better soon.

UndertheCedartree · 24/07/2022 22:14

I agree with others most probably viral hives. Hope he feels better soon. My DD has never taken Calpol so I feel your pain. I'm allergic to antihistamine too, which can cause problems! I find ice packs helpful for itching.

Thank you. He is better than he was on Friday already. He's finding the strawberry tongue quite funny!
