Period pants under swimming costume?

justagirlstandinginfrontofcake · 21/07/2022 13:57

Would I be U to, instead of buying period swimming costumes, use period pants underneath the costume? (they wouldn't show really). I can't think if this would work or not.

NOT unreasonable: This won't work at all
ARE unreasonable: Sure, this will work fine

Your voting seems backwards.

Are they made to get wet like that? It's a tampon not preferable in this case?

MuthaHubbard · 21/07/2022 13:59

Hmmm I'm not sure it would work as intended - I rinse out my period pants after use so of course, the water running out is a a certain colour. Would this happen if worn in water? Maybe swimming Cossie ones are made slightly differently to avoid that?

Could a bath trial be done?

MuthaHubbard · 21/07/2022 14:00

As @steff13 says, a tampon when swimming is my preferred choice tbh

Palamon · 21/07/2022 14:01

Would the blood not leach into the water? 🤢

Can’t you wear a tampon for swimming?

Coffeaddict · 21/07/2022 14:02

No it wouldn't work. The swim ones are designed differently.

Arucanafeather · 21/07/2022 14:02

I do just that. On heavy days I use a tampon as well and on light day just a fresh pair of period pants under costume. Works really well. Even gone for a wild swim and worn my costume on the 1/2 hour drive home afterwards and had no leakage onto the towel I was sitting on to keep the car seat dry.

Blossomtoes · 21/07/2022 14:02

A tampon please. Who wants to swim in someone else’s menstrual blood? 🤮

BeenHereForYonkyDoodles · 21/07/2022 14:03

I think you might need to use a tampon or sit this one out.

justagirlstandinginfrontofcake · 21/07/2022 14:03

My vote is backwards! I am an idiot. Sorry!

To clarify. I use period underwear for lovely middle age stress incontinence! I've left it too late to buy appropriate swimwear, so wondered if I could multi task with period pants under swimwear. (to prevent nappy rash and smell!)

So you want to wear period pants in the pool to deal with stress incontinence or your period?

If its for the stress incontinence I would worry about it, every baby and small child in the pool will have wee'd in it!

funinthesun19 · 21/07/2022 14:12

It wouldn’t work. Once the pad has been flooded with water which will be pretty much straight away, it won’t soak up any blood.

ittakes2 · 21/07/2022 14:14

I am so confused why you are thinking of period pants in water for stress incontinence. Surely they don’t do stress incontinence swimwear?

ittakes2 · 21/07/2022 14:17

Actually sorry I stand corrected incontinence swimmers do exist!

SirenSays · 21/07/2022 14:18

Confused if you mean to use them for incontinence or your period. Either way I doubt it would work once the pants are wet. If you mean for periods then you're better off using tampons or a menstrual cup or disc

This
Baby swim nappies don't catch wee they only catch poo.

If its for the time around the pool I would go with your plan

Rosehugger · 21/07/2022 14:29

I don't have stress incontinence but swimming often makes me suddenly need to pee, always has, and I wouldn't have time to get out of the pool. I wouldn't worry about it.

gamerchick · 21/07/2022 14:31

Is there such thing as middle aged stress incontinence? It's not a normal thing we have to put up with as we age. You can get it fixed. Awful thing to have to put up with.

I wouldn't worry about losing a bit of pee whole swimming though. Every kid pees in the pool.

Astrabees · 21/07/2022 14:35

Try a women's health phisio. In my area you can self refer and they cured me entirely (well I had to make a bit of an effort) so I can now do star jumps and ride a bouncy horse without worry.

MissMaple82 · 21/07/2022 14:36

Uuuurgh no, wear a tampon!

ifonly4 · 21/07/2022 14:36

I'd definitely use a tampon. If you don't have any and are going to a public place with a pool, they're sure to have some in the ladies.

Surely the pants you're referring to are going to soak up water and when you get out are going to be clearly obvious. Also, once the water has got into gaps, menstrual blood is going to seep out.

justagirlstandinginfrontofcake · 21/07/2022 14:40

It's so I don't have to remove a pad every time I pop into the water. So in / out / in / out and not have to worry about constant changes. Stress incontinence will, of course, be fine in the water. I'm more thinking of the times outside the water!

And period pants are cheaper than the incontinence versions and work just as well for normal day to day wear. Hence owning period pants. But not having time to buy incontinence swimwear as it slipped my mind. We go away tomorrow!

justagirlstandinginfrontofcake · 21/07/2022 14:40

So to clarify, no. No blood. Just urine.

OP posts:
justagirlstandinginfrontofcake · 21/07/2022 14:41

Also, Yes, I am receiving physio, but it won't be fixed by tomorrow. Left overs of a 4th degree tear that wasn't nicely fixed at the time.

Sweatinglikeabitch · 21/07/2022 14:47

For just urine I'd take the risk. You won't be able to see it anyway and the chlorine will hide any smell. Tbh I think I'd not even bother with the period pants at all just put them on if you get dry and put clothes on.
