Period pants under swimming costume?

Would I be U to, instead of buying period swimming costumes, use period pants underneath the costume? (they wouldn't show really). I can't think if this would work or not.

NOT unreasonable: This won't work at all
ARE unreasonable: Sure, this will work fine

Aren't the pants a bit like a sponge and soak up the liquid? So wouldn't it be (to a lesser degree) like a baby going in the water in a nappy? Surely they have a 'liquid capacity' which would be reached within seconds when you get in the pool?

I'd be worried about them becoming damaged from over saturation or ballooning once full of water. Wouldn't you have to pop to the loo after each swim anyways to wring them out?

It doesn't work. I've seen an attempt to do that very thing in action😬. Buy the period swimwear - it works brilliantly.

I use period underwear for lovely middle age stress incontinence!
If the period pants soak up urine they’re just just to absorb all the water you’re swimming in. So when you get out it’ll be full and dripping anyway. You’d be better off just nipping to the loo when you’re getting out for a while and popping a reusable pad or something on.

...Amazon Prime do a one day delivery one.

Actually sorry I stand corrected incontinence swimmers do exist!

Key bit of info on those is 'double incontinence' - they keep poo in. They won't do much to stop water ingress or wee egress. Just like infant swim nappies are really only good for stopping poo.

If it's just wee, then pee before swimming and hope for the best. In the sea its literally a drop in the ocean, and pool systems can deal with wee leakage

Thanks everyone.

Sadly Amazon don't have my size to get here in time.

I guess, I'm not thinking of round the pool (which will, I presume, have toilets close by) but, for example, a days snorkelling at a small beach with no facilities, or an afternoon out snorkelling from a boat.

Plan C needs to be thought of. I adore snorkelling so really want to try and think of a way round it!

A tampon please. Who wants to swim in someone else’s menstrual blood? 🤮

Yes. Bleurgh

RoundaboutRacer · 21/07/2022 15:38

Presumably even on the snorkelling boat etc the towel you're saying on will end up wet etc from the sea. As will your costume.

So who's to know 🤷🏻‍♀️

whataloadabullocks · 21/07/2022 17:10

If you're in and out of the sea I wouldn't worry about wee, no one will notice.
If it's for periods I don't think it would work, also be aware there was a theory that menstruation can attract sharks, I don't know if it was scientifically proven though.
Period pants won't work under a cozy though as they won't keep the water out, so you'll end up with soggy bloated fabric round your nether regions! if you were to wear a dry suit then it would be fine. If you wear neoprene shorts then that would probably work too.

Whataplanker · 21/07/2022 17:29

Why can't you snorkel with stress incontinence? I'm confused? You snorkel, your costume is wet. Who is to know if it's wee or sea water? To be fair, if you're at a beach with no facilities snorkeling for the day, everyone you're with with have peed in their swimmers in the sea at some point.

As I said earlier, part of it is, to be frank, to do with nappy rash. Having urine wet clothing against your skin can make it sore.

Obviously none of this is a worry while IN the water. And it's not about other people seeing I might be wet. It's about my own personal comfort!

But everyone is wet when they get out the water and has to drip dry or towel dry and stay in a soggy costume? Regardless of if it's sea water, pool water or urine? Honestly I can't see how wearing a giant sponge is going to make any difference other than draw attention to it

SeaGrassMirror · 21/07/2022 20:24

I think you’d be better off with a ‘normal’ swim costume then wouldn’t you? As the fabric is thinner so would dry quicker?
if there is wee there, wouldn’t it be watered down with sea/pool water then just dry naturally as you walk about?
