Do you think you can retire before 65?

And if you cannot retire before 65 do you think you will be able to work less hours (part time) topped up with your state pension and still afford life?

Anyone else think retirement will be a myth especially if you retire in the 2050s where the projection is that the retirement age will easily be 70 plus. The thought of people having to work at 70 is quite a sad sight.

Please don’t write mea culpa - it’s pretentious and annoying, also a little unhinged.
As you were.

Please don’t resurrect four-month-old threads to randomly police language. It’s annoying and a little unhinged.

I don't worry about when I'll be able to retire, I worry more about being actually relevant enough to get work in a decade or so's time. I know the robots aren't really coming for that many jobs, but I do wonder why anyone would really employ me to do what I do when they really could employ someone 20 years younger, more recently trained, cheaper, etc 😕

My plans changed after getting out of an abusive marriage at 49.

Now 52 and single. No inheritance to come (parents also abusive). Just me to provide for us and get the teen DCs through uni.

mortgage runs til 67. Am trying to overpay but it’s not easy.

have a SIPP (self employed) and trying to work as hard as I can, to save for uni fees and pension. I would really hope to stop or cut back once the mortgage is paid off. DCs hopefully independent by then.

still better than the alternative, though.
