Friend's taken baby to the beach today!

I just seen my friend post a photo on social media of her and her baby at the beach. AIBU to think she is irresponsible for doing that? She's in a hotter part of the country in the south east. The beach actually looked empty in the background which you would think might have said something to her.

I guess I'm on the other extreme. I'm a worrier about my children (I have a toddler and baby) and we're inside with windows closed, curtains drawn, fans on, ice lollies out and Disney films on. Just makes me anxious and kind of angry that someone could do that to their baby.

This thread made me smile as I've literally just got back from an afternoon at the beach with my toddler and pre-schooler! Admittedly not babies but unless a newborn, I can't see the issue. I used to live in Australia and there were always babies on the beaches in the peak of summer.

And as for slating her for not following NHS advice... don't the NHS ALWAYS advise people to stay out of the sun at the peak of the day, not just babies and not just today?

Honestly, the beach I went to was miles cooler than my stuffy warm house. There was actually a delightful breeze (I'm in the south east too) and it was so nice to paddle and cool down. It was really busy - heaps of young children and babies too!

I got burnt today just walking to and from work. Yanbu.

surreygirl1987 · 19/07/2022 18:29

That's bizarre - we've been out for hours and didn't get burnt in the slightest. Did you wear suncream/ hat etc?

I don’t see what it has to do with you OP. You can’t tell much from a social media post so best not to judge. I went to the beach with my child today we went early morning wore hats and sun cream, drank water, it was breezy and lovely, we left before mid day. I took some pics where beach looked empty behind us but there were plenty of people around it was just the photo angle. She may also not have posted while she was there and done so when back.

It is possible to go out in the sun and not get sun burnt

How can a BABY 'come in'??? Let alone when they're on a BEACH?*

@WinterMusings calm down and MYOB. A parent knows when it's time to rein it in, what do you, random mumsnetter, know?

@creekal

I'm sorry if you don't like the fucking obvious idiocy of your post pointing out!

you were the one who said it was fine as they could 'come in' I merely pointed out that, no, a baby cannot just come in.

this random MNer knows better than to take a baby to the beach in 40° heat.

so jog on with your attemp at patronising me with your 'calm down'. Muppet.

creekal · 20/07/2022 20:21

@WinterMusings you sound very angry. Go get your vitamin D, babe.

Sorry for bringing up a zombie thread but this has been playing on my mind :( I hope the poor child has recovered from their horrific encounter with the evil sunshine and is tucked up in bed full of vitamin D supplements.
